Depends on how much you use I guess. If I use 30 mins in a month its a heavy month, plus I use wifi most of the time, so its ideal for me, and probably many others. Thought I'd post here because of the low line rental and lack of upfront fee.

Wow did it take long to trawl the several billion pages of the internet to find this?

Cold deal but I suspect that other members will help you find a better one without looking at every page on the web.

£43... low line rental? That's not low at all.

I've pretty much looked at all the deals and this is the best one so far. In this day and age 5 gig is the minimum one must have. Or, if you get the BT deal that popped up a couple of days ago, you could use that along with the handset from samsung with the 24 months 0% APR. Although, it will still turn out to be over the 1K margin over the course of 24 months.

To be honest, I expected worse, because S8 itself isn't that far off either. For a similar deal as one mentioned by b29, you'd be looking to spend only about £200 less than a note 8 and right now, there seems to be a promotion along with s8 that also gives you a gear vr which in my opinion is miles better than the DEX dock. I'll be hopeful and look out for a decent note 8 deal. Wish me luck!

What absolute tosh.

So low data users like myself who NEVER use more than 1GB pm (more like 400-600mb in my case), 5GB must be the minimum?

Bonkers reasoning, sorry!

I can't understand that, sorry. I was on 1gb and sometimes watched YouTube forgetting I wasn't on WiFi and bam, it's all gone. I can't deal with that. If there are people that can, good on them, but I still believe 5gb should be the minimum for the average peraon

Based on what? What is the average person exactly?
Some people put content on their phones and/or use WiFi at home or at work so their data consumption isn't necessarily the highest.
You're making the assumption that the average person is on YouTube frequently enough to drain their data allowance.
Over a grand on a phone that'll be used so little. I always think its like buying a Ferrari and only having a tenner for fuel every month.

I was just thinking the same thing, why buy a super expensive smartphone and then hardly use it.
I only use wi-fi
It would be a fantastic deal if it had more data. I also agree with the 5gb minimum. That's what I'm looking for. Saying that, I've had a 1gb contract before and got along with it because I'm usually connected to Wi-Fi at home and work. However, there's always those times travelling which I like to have more for. Just incase.
buying a sim free handset and then buying a sim only 12 month deal is better

I've got wifi everywhere I go, except for my daily commute. I use my phone all the time.
Just because the data allowance on this particular deal isn't exactly 'big' it wouldn't stop me using it.

Average person being someone who shouldn't risk losing all their data and having nothing left to use for the rest of the month. A safe side.
Horses for courses but even i agree 5gb is minimum for heavy users like myself where i use facebook whatsapp youtube streaming as well tethering to tablets or my laptop if on a journey.

1.2gb data seems a bit specific

Its Virgins base line contract which is actually 300Mb, but they have quadrupled the data to 1.2Gb. They also do others which double or quadruple the data from 3 to 6 etc.

But 5GB is an arbitrary amount you seem to have just plucked out of the air, hence why I've asked what the average person is beyond your perspective.

An "average" person may only use a few hundred MB per month so 2GB in that case could be a "safe side" for them.

Yeah, it is. But its a number most people need to get in order to be comfortable without caring much if their data depletes. You can't do much with your 1gb. You need to be wary about where it goes, with 5gb minimum, you may not need to.

on YOUR usage patterns.

I used to be on a 4Gb contract and rarely got anywhere near the 4Gb. The only time i did was when Steams webpage was continously loading videos and it kicked the totals very high. I currently have 40Gb to play with a month (£15) and with 18 days to go i have 39832Mb left to use. So in 2 weeks, i have used just over 1Gb.

On holiday, i was tethering 5 other different people and their phones and together, everyone didn't even get to 10Gb.

I'm not wary about my data because i dont care. It's set up to collect email, i watch netflix and steam from google music and spotify, youtube and search the web, play on-line games etc. it just happens that the majority of that time is on wifi.

My girlfriend manages on 1Gb a month and although she DOES have to pick and choose what to use and where, she does it relatively easy and doesn't miss out on anything. Someone in my office lives on 500Mb a month! Give them 5Gb and they'd never get anywhere near it.

Fair enough. Let's agree to disagree. I was on a 1gb plan and had to worry about where it was going everyday. With 5gb, I probably won't have to. And that's what I assume most people would feel too. With Snapchat and Insta eating so much data, let alone YouTube
