Using the code DROP10 takes a tenner off Upfront.
Isn't it £529 sim free?
MrSwitch21/02/2020 11:36

That's the note 10 lite

Oh sorry yeah:) I see Note10 lite everywhere atm so by default thought this was as well

Its fine, very confusing still.
Do these have snapdroagon or exynos processor? Why are these cheaper than the s10 I mean aren't they technically on par despite being labelled "lite"

Probably cos they've got loads of bit left and wanted to get rid of them, I hope they don't sell well.

Better peocessor, but a worse camera and screen.

No waterproofing, amongst other things, so I've read.

I've taken the plunge on one of these, direct from Samsung. Reasonable tradeins and cashback have brought it down to a reasonable price for me.
Reviews seem pretty good, and getting 100 quid for an old X compact I had letting around was too good to miss

how much worse? very tempted by this. how does the device stack up against the p30 (regular)

On par with the A90 camera, not at all bad, just not as good as the s10 series, the massive battery imo makes up for the failings.

The p30 will have the better camera, but this will have the superior battery life, screen, and processor.

how does the camera compare with the mate 10 pro?

On paper, better, dedicated macro lens with an ultra wide angle, from reviews seems it has a better than I though shooter compared to the A90. I think it's a diamond in the rough.

thanks MrSwitch i'm probably testing your knowledge & patience here but your input is much appreciated.

the "dilema" i find myself in is that I thought i wanted the p30 (regular) mainly due to size. In terms of size p30 is pretty much perfect i could go a bit bigger but p30 allows enough for addition of a case without it being too bulky. However since using my mate 10pro as daily driver there are niggles that i'm not happy with & worry will also be present on p30. I wouldnt want them for the 2 years of the contract (plus). I enjoy the stock android feel (coming from a nokia 8 ) & it seems that running nova launcher on a huawei device & still being able to use features such as quick reply/actions on notifications from drop down bar or on lockscreen will be hit & miss with working (esp if apps are locked for privacy) If i could test these feature on the p30 before buying id have peace of mind & go for p30 but alas i cannot.

as for this device i went to see it in store & it didn't actually feel as big as i thought it would given the difference in dimensions between it & p30. I actually felt nice in hand (of course that was without a case).
For me there are things that i prefer about this "lite" version over the regular s10:
+ no curved screen
+ volume rocker & power button are on the right hand side as opposed to left
+ snapdragon processor over exynos

the only thing putting me off this phone is the size. the only thing putting me off the p30 is potential issues with software
would also ask whether you think the p30 or this device will retain its resale value better?

my criteria for new device is:
- fingerprint scanner (deal breaker) & the sole reason i didnt opt for the pixel 4
- ui close to stock android
- ideally similar size to p30
- flat screen not curved
- expandable memory
- flagship processor (still counting sd 855 & kirin 980 as flagship).
- headphone jack would be an added bonus

based on the above criteria what would you recommend?

Oneplus 7t, none expandable storage or headphone jack. But ticks the rest of your boxes.

oh wait i forgot to put my price range would be looking at sub £30/m. seems that three are the only retailer to offer a contract on the op7t? I had a op3 on release & did like it. I'll try to check it out in store & see how it feels. From what i can see not in my price range though i'm with 3 so could try to negotiate with them lol but not confident i could haggle sub £30 & get at least 20gb data .... thanks for your recommendation

Yeah cheapest is £36pm with £29 Upfront for 4GB.

I think you'll have to drop one or two of your criteria if you want to spend u der £30, something like the honor 20/pro are available on good contracts.

yeah if going huawei/honor it'll be the p30.
torn between this & the p30. compromise on size or compromise on UI. choices .....

is the cashback from samsung on this going to be easy to claim?
annoyingly i can't even ask 3 to price match this deal as they only stock the black version & i want the white/silver

Very easy to claim, done it once, took about 5 - 6 weeks altogether.

looking like this would cost approx just under £3 more a month over the p30 .... potentially 1.30ish if cashback were to track but not holding my breath on that .....
can't decide not sure that this is worth that over the p30 ....
Not really in a major rush as tied into simo until dec so could wait & see if the s20 or note 10 price drop by then ..... though prefer the flat screen on this over the s20. Why is nothing catching my eye

damir frac needs to do a review on this haha
