Went past my local Blockbuster at lunchtime in Costorphine: Edinburgh and seen this bargain hanging in the window. Went in and asked the guy working in there, and he said this is the national price for all pre-owned Game Boy Advances....and I tell you...what a games console this is!

is this for the gb micro too?

Hot deal, still play Tetris on this every night 30 mins before bed!

Sadly though the original Gameboy Advance is far from ideal to play those old skool GBA cartridges its major weakness is the lack of any front of back light....yes you can add silly little spotlights, like you could on the older Gameboy Colour, but they don't offer that much improvement.

The SP version was far superior, and the Micro version amazingly portable.

Grrr i bought this from blockbuster for £75!!!!!!

(days after release though :-D )

dont waste your money

Excellent but nothing beats the gb micro - truely most underated console ever!!!

Gamestation have the SP's at £9.99, my local one(Leicester) had 20+ in the window when I passed by at the weekend.

Bought an original for £8 over 2 & a half years ago in CEX.

hot+
I always found the comfort of holding the gba better compared to the gba sp. plus, theres a grove underneath the shoulder buttons to rest your fingers. rather then resting on the buttons
I suppose if your brave, you can install the afterburner kit to sort the light issue.

cool solves my 3 year old wants a ds problem!

Poor kid, wants a DS but will be getting a GBA! lol.

its corstorphine
:-)

tempted to get this for my 2.5 year old to help keep her occupied on an 8 hr flight lol

I'd say it's a good price for a collector, but not suitable for kids.

You've got to be about 1 metre away from the burning fires of the sun for the screen to be viewable.

no back light

The poor kid is a ver boysterous little boy and only doing it so he dont want the DSi's the other 2 are getting for their birthday! lol

Couldn't stand it without back light!

Dont listen to the moaners...this is a bloody bargain. Find me a full colour quality handheld gaming unit for this price. The games should be ruddy cheap too. Good to just have knocking about or to pass time while sat on the toilet LOL.

The GBM is a beautifully put together bit of kit, but suffered from being horribly overpriced at the time - it was released up against the much more capable original DS for not far off the same price

(picked one up for 15 squid a couple of years ago just as they dropped all GBA stuff from the shops)

Yeah but a bargain is only a bargain if its useful!....us so called "moaners" are only stating useful info about this unit, I bought one on release day, hardly used it, it was frustrating to use without sitting anywhere near a window or without external light shined on it.

Afterburner light kits which have to be soldered in them are out of production and difficult to find, and would cost far more, and more trouble than they are worth than picking up a Gameboy Advance SP for a tenner preowned, which has a nicer form factor a rechargeable battery as well as a front lit screen with brightness levels, meaning previous games like Castlevania are playable instead of too dark.

I paid £100 for mine then sold it like 18 months later for like £60, then … I paid £100 for mine then sold it like 18 months later for like £60, then bought a GBA SP for like £100, the backlight makes a huge huge difference.

Same here, the GBA SP wasn't initially backlit, it was front lit, around the time of the release of the GBA Micro which was backlit, there was a version of the GBA SP released with a backlit screen..although I am not sure if they ever released these versions outside of the US. Front or backlit though it makes a massive difference.

Hot price but i wouldn't peronally buy one due to lack of backlight. Gimme a GBA Micro or backlit SP over this any day.

buying this is like buying a psone instead of a ps3 - too old and geriatric to be of any use...

GB Micro Mario 25th anniversary edition in the famicom colours. Its a thing of beauty.

Love mine and with the right cough! ]http//ww…179card cough! will mean I can always play games on a stylish device smaller than my phone.

Buying an Aston Martin DB5 would make me the biggest and possibly richest moron in the world ever then.

(yeah I wish)

You say that...a lot of people complain about the lack of a backlight. But the other few million didnt really mind to be honest. Il agree it wasnt great, my bro had one at the time. But it was still impressive. And still most defo worth it for a fiver. You cant buy anything similar for this price.

Whatever you do DON'T buy the original version, get an SP (better still a Micro if you can find one).
I bought my 4 year old an original GBA from a boot sale last year for around a tenner with some games and in the car on the way home it was hardly visible!
Back in the day I got the same GBA on launch day and thought it was the mutts, I remember completing Mario World on it and always wondered what all the backlight moaners were on about, the SP onwards has clearly shown me the way!

This from a GBA collector (I have 90 original carts bought over the years, the original, an SP and all UK colours of the Micro bought when Comet was selling them for £20!)

like, no way !

I sold my Micro and kept my SP as I thought the colours look better on the SP and the Micro was really uncomfortable to play for more than 5 minutes.

What's the difference?

A brighter more even lighting I believe from the backlit screens, as far as I am aware the newer brighter backlit SP's were only ever released in North America (In fact I remember seeing the boxes on one of my trips there).

The front lit ones had a couple of oblong lights either at the top and bottom or the sides if I remember and are nowhere near as vibrant or light balanced as back lit screen (or offered level of light adjustment), heres an article on the difference :

]http//uk…tml

And here is a wiki about them being released in the North American markets.

]http//en…_SP

In North America in September 2005, around the time of the Game Boy Micro's release, Nintendo released an improved version of the Game Boy Advance SP featuring a backlight instead of the previous version's frontlight. The brightness can be set to low or high. The box says, "Now with a BRIGHTER backlit screen!" to distinguish the new model from the older, frontlit models. In addition, the backlit SP model can be recognized by the AGS-101 model designation on the bottom of the unit.

The backlit version comes in three standard colors: Pearl Blue, Pearl Pink and Graphite (a more gray version of Charcoal Black).

I had that but sold it when I needed cash. Also had the Famicom SP which was another beautiful beautiful console.

With hindsight Id have never sold them but at the time was still at school and had no job so was only way to make some quick cash!

Still my black gameboy micro (complete with black faceplate - not the silver one it came with as standard) gets almost daily use. Best handheld ever as small enough to carry in a pocket but screen highly visable, and unlike someone above has said I find you can play for hours with comfort!

Off topic but hey......

Get a GBA SP model AGS-101...this blows even the original SP away with having a screen like the gameboy micro, the original SP screen is pretty pants if you ask me.

It has two levels of brightness and the screen on the AGS-101 is totally amazing, this is the ultimate handheld console IMO.

its 4.95 for gb micro i think, or 4.99. i should know :P
