Acer Marketing BS

The Aspire 5742G has been designed as the perfect all-round notebook

If it is perfect why do they bother making the other gazillion models that they do?
Got to love the marketing BS!

I'd probably rather go for the Dell XPS 15 here. The 6th deal down priced at £597 after applying the 5% discount code.

It consists of an Intel Core i5 460, 4GB of Ram, 640GB Hard Drive, 1GB nVidia GeForce GT 420M Graphics and Windows 7 Home Premium.

I've got an XPS 15 myself and the build quality I feel is exceptional.

With VAT and delivery saves about £9 pounds. Thanks for comment.

Are we not all better off waiting a week or so for the sandy bridge laptops to start becoming available, then hopefully prices should drop ?

Acer Laptops are total rubbish, very poorly made casings, and cheap parts. not a bad spec but save you money for a Sony Vaio well made and will last! some great deals out there at the moment 8)...

what about a HP i5 laptop from best buy, £150 cash back when you trade in any laptop (less than 5 years old, recognised brand etc etc) and 10% quidco TCB.

We got an Acer for my daughter - she's had it a couple for years with absolutely no problems. Build quality is fine.

I have had an acer aspire desktop for 2 years now, got it for just 260 and has been exceptional. I may have been 'lucky' but I would buy acer again without a thought.

I am using the caption laptop replying to this post. I brought it from tech depot with quidco, all together it is £49 cheaper than Acer direct.
Acer laptop is target cheap end market, you buy what you paid for but if you prefer more famous brand you have to prepare paying extra £100 or more with the same spec; I am going to test this laptop on design software so i should come back for another comments.

Eh?The what laptops?

lol , where have you been?
if a laptop has been posted in the past couple of months so have the words 'sandy bridge is coming'
i dont know the exact details and just having bought a new laptop a few months back dont want to^^
but basically it will lead to a large jump in performance

wow this is very good offer

you can get it from techdept, via quidco (5% cashback) total inc delivery is £554

I really wanna go for the Dell XPS 15 with the vouchers getting it down to 598. WIth all the things Dell are doing which expire on Feb 10th should I buy it or will the Sandy Bridge Laptop be worth a wait and also push the older models down in the next 3 months (my time frame to buy) Anyone with an opinion I'd love to hear!

I suggest you to wait. From what I read on forums and tech sites. New CPU are meant to be really impressive and if not much more powerful then at least less heat and power consumption. Also new mobile VGA (500m series) are meant to be less power hungry.
I think that for £600 quid you could get a nice deal when all new stuff is released.
If not, once the new once arrive big sellers will want to get rid of the old ones.
Wait if you can DEFINITELY.

Thanks for the advice DownHill911. I need one for my summer video work in America and can afford to wait until the end of April...I think I will...
Nothing worse than thinking you have a pretty sweet deal and then the next week seeing a flood of incredible technology ruining your smile!
I'll keep monitoring the situation but I looking for anything at the level of the £600 Dell or above...
