Been thinking of getting a tracker for some time, and this seems like a good deal to me, based on reviews on the Web. I'd be interested in knowing what others think. I'm no longer a runner due to ageing knees, but would like a good quality device to track my steps and HR and remind me to get up and walk about when I've been sat for too long.

Dearer than many fitness bands \ watches I know, but Garmin have a good reputation as I understand it. And I expect to get a good quality device that will track my long walks accurately, integrate well with my iPhone, and record lots of data about my activity for me to explore.

this is an AWESOME watch! works well with both android and iphones - will ping you all your messages, emails, app alerts.
I use it for running & long distance hikes. Some great 3rd party widgets I use such as one which gives you your Ordnance Survey grid reference - OS Grid Reference I think its called.
also the IQ Apps are AWESOME - I use DwMap which lets you upload gpx files to a 3rd party website, and then you can download the gpx file to the phone so you can navigate walks using your watch - it pings if you are off route, when you need to turn etc. And it works really really well.
I tried the apple watch versions 1 & 2 and then when my wife bought me this for a Jurassic coast trail run & training I was completely blown away by the battery life and how easy it was to navigate.
Well worth £130. Heat from me

That's a really helpful comment. Thanks!

And apologies for not spotting this deal had already been posted.
Do install the All In One data field - it's a must have for any compatible Garmin device.

How do you use the all in one?

How do you use the all in one?

You edit one of your activity app screens, in its settings, to show this instead of one of the built-in options where you can only see 3 stats per screen.

You can change what it displays in each activity in the Connect IQ app, on your phone.

From the docs:

Q3: I’ve installed “All In One” but I can’t find it on my device
All In One is a data field and you have to edit an existing activity profile such as RUN via RUN SETTINGS to use it (choose a 1 field layout and as field 1 select the All In One app).

This has been posted as others said but this is a good review of this watch. Anyone serious about fitness ditches the gimmicky smartwatches and buys a Garmin! I am not surprised you used for a Trail Run (how did you get on, that coast is hilly!) - the battery on these are superb, even in GPS mode.
Does this work with Google Fit? Be nice not to have a whole new fitness app.
Showing £169 now 😞
yes, all gone. You can get a refurb for £128 (only 1 year warranty). amazon.co.uk/dp/…rfb
I got a different model of Garmin watch (instinct) htthrough a work discount thing and was surprised by how good they are.
Still think a vivoactive 3 is a better purchase than this and can be had for less on CeX. Just my two pence

The main difference however is the 235 has more advanced fitness metrics. So if you are a serious runner then things like vo2 max are quite important to track progress. There may be others as well that I have forgotten. But on the flip side the vivo 3 does swim tracking from memory and their is a music version also.

Anyone who wants to compare, google DCR Analyser. It’s an awesome tool & so are his reviews.

(Small print: I owned a 230 (235 without the wrist based HR sensor), then upgraded to a 935. Also have done similar with their edge models - 80>520>530 plus a few differing HRM straps - Premium>Tri/Swim)
Weren't impressed with this. Looks old, and just not very user friendly. Have sent mine back.

That said I think the v02 max thing is worth spending money on so would head for the 245 which can be picked up for probably 50 more on a good day on ebay. The 235 is best part of 3 years old and the hm monitor not that accurate so defeating the point of v02 max a little. As the next post quotes it's quite an ugly watch these days. I think if one is serious about fitness tracking they should get the most up to date equipment. Many I'm sure would tell me I'm wrong and I'm happy to be corrected.
