I’ve been following this for a couple of weeks and it looks like Blacks have taken another £20 off the Fenix 5. Great for running, swimming, cycling, triathlons plus many other things and a steal compared to prices elsewhere. I know the Fenix 5 PLUS and Fenix 6 are above but this packs a punch at under £300.

Now to decide whether I want the Sapphire version (£324 on Blacks) or Fenix 5X (£349 on Blacks) as an upgrade to my battered Fenix 3....

5X includes maps and Sapphire glass
I've been looking for traders with some discount on the 6 series. No much popping up right now.
I might take the hit and get a 5 series if they are offering some discount.
I'm in the rabbit hole at the minute. Like the look of this, but still keep going back to the 645 music at £199. Ideally, I would have liked mapping. Just cant justify the extra £200.

Me too, or the 735XT at £149
Same boat here too. Really want a 6 Pro, but 735XT is such a tempting price.... This is a good deal though OP

Great price for the fenix 5 and 5x. Sorry to hijack. Highly recommend the 735XT and for £149, it's a steal. The route nav works pretty well even without the map. Few times out on the trails it can be hard to tell which trail if there are several but once you run 200m it tends to be clear if you're on the right one. I upgraded from the 735XT to 945 as managed to get a 25% discount after a race event. I thought the mapping would be epic given the price but it's not amazing and doesn't have the detail i'm after, so still find I end up having to get phone out to confirm route. Garmin pay and Music on the 945 are nice features but defo not worth the extra money.
I've got a 630 and the touchscreen annoys the life out of me. Seen the 735XT and was considering the move as I think its a decent step up (especially at £149)

I went from a touchscreen Garmin Vivoactive to a button based Garmin Fenix 5s and much prefer the buttons, they do feel a bit clumsy at times but they're much more consistent and still work well with gloves on and when the watch is wet.

I've not used mapping on a Garmin watch although would question how useful it is, even on the much larger Edge 520 screen I find it too small for mapping and end up taking out my phone when I need to check something on the map.

Depends what you you're realistically want it for.

If you want maps proper (rather than a fudge) on the Fenix series, it's the 5X, or plus series. Similarly if you want something that will record 24h+ hikes, or have a proper triathlon mode, then you're looking at the Fenix series (735 will do triathlon but with lower battery life which might preclude you from a full iron distance).

If you are primarily running but do a bit of cycling (and are not bothered about power meters etc) then the 645 probably offers more. It doesn't have a multisport mode, but you can select each sport individually. It also has Garmin pay which the 5 series Fenix watches doesn't have. And the 5 series don't have music, you'd need the 5+ for that.

I did have the 645 (without music) but replaced it with the F5 as the battery life on the 645 wasn't long enough for some of the long-distance stuff I tend to do (I got 10 hours out of it in GPS + wrist HR if that's any help).

Cheapest I can find is £350 at Millets, is it worth the extra £71?
What's the main differences between a plus and the X models .

Screen size and the x has maps and I believe wi-if the standard is just blue tooth
I’m torn between 5S / 5S+ / 735XT (and even possibly waiting for the 6S to drop in price)!

Any advice on here welcome. Primarily using it for cycling with ANT+ sensors and general fitness tracking. Also some shortish jogs and some walking trips (twice a year at most).
