I can only find information saying the 5x has maps. Do u need to add maps to this version?

You can't add maps to this version I believe it has no memory for such things. Hence I vote this cold for not being a good price for what is now two generations old perhaps 3 after CES next week.

There's a slightly hacky ConnectIQ app that can do it (dwMap I think) but basically you want the 5X, 5 Plus series, 6 Pro/Sapphire or MARQ series to do it properly. I wouldn't expect anything new at CES as they just launched the 6 range. The 6 series do have some neat software tweaks, just annoying that the 5 and 5 Plus don't get it backported as they easily could...

Dwmap requires a paid subscription and is nothing on native maps in the plus and 6. I reckon there'll be an upgrade to the 735xt, which I am guesstimating will basically be a 945 without maps, at CES and perhaps some sort of fenix 6 sport version. The code for these devices has been spotted in the app. google.com/amp…net

Of course it's not a patch on it! But it might help someone I guess, though I admit I never used it. The Fenix 5 only has about 20MB of usable memory vs 16GB on the 5 Plus/X and 32GB on the MARQ and 6 Pros. I used the mapped navigation on my Fenix the other day and it works surprisingly well given no touchscreen and the size, I am impressed - though I don't need the maps really I just wanted the bigger display, new widget system and more data fields.

I'm not sure they will do anything with the 735XT, it was a weird multisport watch anyway and was lacking the altimeter which I always found odd, but maybe they will slot something in the 900-series or even just discount the 935 as the 945's counterpart. The Fenix 6 range is ridiculous, there's 19 SKUs as it is!
