Gimmick

None available locally and this was cheaper a month or so ago.

I reserved the 205 for £49.99 at my local store and when I got there, they couldn't find it.

Suprise, suprise.

No stock on the Forerunner but there are bits and pieces of stock on the Garmin Edge 205 @ £49.97

Ayr seem to have an Edge 205 but far too long a drive to get it! So anyone near go pick it up. And if anyone wants to pick it up and post it to me I would be grateful! Would love it for Dads birthday!

Gimmick

Not if you take your training seriously it isn't.

Err, I do and it's still a gimmick.

I do laugh at all the lads in the gym with all thier technology strapped all over themselves; I always think that they're compensating for thier small willies .

But, if you need a device like this when you're running around the woods then that's what you need.

 to any gadget that encourages me to go to the gym lol!

I don't see any problem with people using these in the gym. My partner has a 305 for Marathon training and wears it to the gym too so he can monitor his heart rate. Nothing "gimmicky" about that.

Best gym gadget I have is the Motorola S9 Bluetooth headphones. Excellent sound and I can leave my iPod beside a machine while I work on weights near by. No cables to annoy me. Long live gadgets! :-D

I already have one of these and surely they are not meant for the gym! Great for running so you can see your distance and route when you get back!

Agree it is useless and pointless in a gym (why would you want a GPS in a gym:?) but then how many people who train seriously spend all their time in a gym - now that would be pointless.
Useful when running for pacing training runs as well as distance and route plotting - especially marathon training.
It can also be used on a bike for speed/distance/route/pace data.
The ability to use it to help keep a track on your training volume is also useful.
Although I would have a close look at the size of these older models as they are not the smallest devices to wear on your wrist - the new models (405) are not much bigger than a watch.

Agree that sometimes when you want to do something as simple as going for a run you don't always want GPS/HRM/MP3 Player/etc strapped about your body - but they do all have a very good purpose.
