How good is the GPS tracker on this? Any known issues?

I'm looking at this or the 255, and the GPS is meant to have improved with the 255. I'm waiting for the 265 to be widely available for the 255 to get discounted.

Perfectly capable fitness watch but I really don't think that this is a great price considering it is almost exactly 4 years ago since it was released and it has been superceded twice.

I guess it depends on your budget. The 255 Music is £350, and the 265 is £429.

Not sure if you can get a better running watch with music for this price (at least until the 255 is reduced) (edited)

If you want something slightly cheaper the Venu (touch screen) is available here for £150 garmin.com/en-…-02
This also does spotify music and has an OLED screen. (edited)

its worth checking the prices of used/refurbished watches if you're looking for a garmin - I recently picked my wife up a vivoactive 4 (current watch, typically £200) for £60 on ebay - looked like it was a customer return so not a lot of use on it.

Good advice. The Vivoactive 4 is effectively a Venu but without the amoled screen. They come in at less than £80 on a regular basis during the eBay selected sellers promotions. They don't have all the same metrics as the 245 listed here but is an excellent way to dip your toe in the Garmin fitness watch market.

I just received the amazfit GTR2 sports edition, £79 delivered from ebay, from laptops direct (who tried to add shipping when I looked to order direct from their website).
So far looks good, but will need a few runs to decide on real world use with GPS / music etc.
Was very happy with honor magicwatch2 except it wouldn't link to strava, so this watch looks quite similar but fixes that issue. Notice its a bit lighter / slimmer and transferring music seems very slow, adding a few running mixes.

Also had mine for a few years now, no doubt there are better ones out there with improvements to software and hardware but it does me and is still going well.

    Great alternative.
Forerunner 245M is possibly slightly preferable for outdoor exercise where a button-driven interface trumps a touchscreen (which can be a bit tricky in the middle of a run, or when its raining) IIRC theres a few running-specific metrics that are on the forerunner but not the VENU too. The MIPs screen is good for outdoor viewing, and great for preserving battery (its always on) , but can look somewhat washed out.

However they are very similar featurewise in general. The VENU screen is much nicer for indoor use + and it has some guided exercise animations and stuff that you don't get on the forerunners. Probably a slightly better lifestyle watch, or for gym use. Also the Venu has Garmin pay (which the forerunner 245 misses out on for some reason) You still use the physical button to start/stop a run so don't think you'll lose a run due to rain and the touchscreen!

But like I said they aren't far apart in features, so its mostly down to which screen /interface you prefer. Both are great buys!
