Hasn't it always been this price at Argos?

No....usually around £125 ish in most places....price does drop from time to time though!
Good spot OP....£99.99 is a great price.
I bought one for my wife at Christmas....fantastic watch which is never off her wrist.
Same price in purple and black.
Yes the same
Black and Purple has been price matched by Amazon.
From DC Rainmaker vs the Forerunner 35:

Here’s what you won’t find on the FR30 that was on the Forerunner 35:

– No multiple modes on watch: Just running, and only running. You cannot select cycling/walk/cardio/etc… (however, it will re-categorize it later properly on the app)
– No re-broadcasting of your HR via ANT+
– No support for sensors (not HR strap, nor footpod, not speed/cadence sensor)
– No interval mode
– No run/walk mode
– No Virtual Pacer mode
– No data field configuration from device (but you can tweak from the app)
– No watch-face configuration from device (but you can toggle between two faces from app)
– You can do GPS runs outdoors, or an indoor run

i was going to get a Garmin vivoactive HR which was on offer at Maplin for £95 but none near me that had stock

This is stretching the boundaries of what I'd call a 'smartwatch', this is a basic GPS watch with limited notification functionality. Look at either an Amazfit Bip or Ticwatch E for a cheaper smartwatch.

Unless you're an avid runner, then no. This is a running watch with the odd extra feature such as text alerts. It is not a smart watch as such.
Thanks for the comments on the watch, not an avid runner but do the odd bit of running and it was more the price point that it came in at as well

Since just before Christmas on Argos, yes. This is the normal price at Argos. I've been looking for a new Garmin since then and was close to buying it but instead fell for the 735XT which i am still waiting to be reduced.
It's a great running watch for those who don't need all the extra stats of the more expensive garmin watches. Battery life is good although used to Android wear.

Nice to see more square watches on the market. They make more sense, especially when round watches are effectively turned into square watches (by adding lugs) in order to attach the strap. Only reason watches are usually circular is it's easy to fix a hand on top of a cog which moves in a circle - as soon as that restriction is lifted then circular watches dont make much sense.
