Works a treat and much better than the wrist based heart rate monitor
Only a casual runner, 10-15k a week, but tempted by this to go with my fenix 5+.

I'd say it's worth it for the extra insight you get on your running technique. I always wear the HRM when I run with my Fenix 5. Has made me a better runner. 😁🏃

Ah I just bailed out of purchase, not sure I'm advanced enough to make any use of it!

What extra stats does it give you? I have a Fenix 5 and I'm considering it, especially if it makes me a better runner 🐢
Was just about to post this - great deal!

cadence, vertical oscillation, ground contact time, vertical ratio and L/R balance. Here's this morning's run:

Lots of useful info on the Garmin site. Also google fellrnr for a load of great content on running efficiency.

Running power too in combination with certain watches
Damn it, couldn't resist, bought.
Heat! I paid £60 six months ago (!)
Just bought this. Heat added.

I’ve got a Garmin Fenix 5X and want to use this strap for treadmill runs, weight training and cycling. The HR data from the strap looks more accurate than from the wrist device, especially with cycling and weights where my wrist position changes often.

Really good price too. They’re selling for more than this on eBay, so brand new from amazon is very good.

Quidco is also doing 6% cashback on fitness on amazon at present too. Every little helps...

Thanks for the Quidco tip - updated
Does this actually give you new data, or just more accurate than the watch alone?

New data & more accurate HR data. Scroll up ^ the thread for detail on new data.
Good price and absolutely essential if you want accurate data.

Make sure you wash them thoroughly after running as the sweat will ruin it otherwise.

Thanks. I don't have a garmin so wasn't sure what it collected, was looking at this for a friend.
My FR 735XT came with this chest strap last year and loved the running dynamics but hated wearing the strap.
I sold it and bought instead a Running Dynamics Pod.
It works great and has all the dynamics you need and no Chest Strap needed. With the shoe pod you wont have the HR but most of Garmin watches came with it.
It's tiny but clips onto your shorts tightly so hopefully wont loose it.
Bought this on Monday and delivered yesterday. 1st run today and loving the new stats
+1 for more accurate HR performance but I'm not sure the running dynamics are actually useful at all. Have yet to see anyone put together some training advice based on them. Happy to use the built-in HR for day-to-day training and activities but always wear a strap for anything more serious.
Is this any good for monitoring sleep

Is this any good for monitoring sleep

No - this measures heart rate & running dynamics stats and works with certain Garmin watches. (But Garmin watches do a pretty good job of monitoring sleep).

Yes, the additional stats just seem to be data for the sake of data. What can you do with ground contact time and vertical oscillation? (cadence and stride length are generally provided via the watch anyway).
now back up to £59.99.
Bought the garmin dual at £39.99

They’re useful for running assessment if you’re having issues with injury.

Other than that, I use them for motivation. Stats and pretty graphics based on my performance weirdly motivate me. I haven’t a clue why. But if I generate that stuff I enjoy exercising even more and want to do it more and more.

Odd. But works for me.
Used mine today and loved it.

There’s definitely an improvement on HR data if you wear this for cycling, weights, rowing or anything where the wrist is changing position.

Extra stats on the runs are also welcome to motivate me as above in my last post.

Really good purchase and a very good price.
It’s back at £39.99
still £39.99, bought one - heat added!
