I find swimming boring as hell but need to train, so thought this might add a bit of interest to it. This is the cheapest way to get it new. I actually did a live chat to Amazon who after a few mins gave me a code to match the price at checkout so got it from them.

I was going to get the tri one, but after a bit of reading this one i specially designed to grip to you better when you push off the wall, and is also more resistant to the chlorine in pools.

(Amazon may price match on live chat)

I considered buying a chest based HRM for running to get a more accurate record of my heart rate that the Wrist Based HRM.
I eventually decided that unless I wa doing some serious competition training, I didn't really need one.
It's nice to get the stats and other metrics associated with heart rate training, but my body tells me itself whether that hill I'm running up is raising my heart rate enough or whether I'm cruising steadily.

I know heart rate zones and the times in those zones can be a more truer measure of effort than actual times and distances in terms of fitness and health, but I think most of these metrics are motivators, like you said to "add a bit of interest to it".

Completely agree with you. I'm triathlon training and swimming is my weak point at the moment. For running & cycling I just use my sensor on my wrist (gamin forerunner 935) but that doesn't work int he pool. So figured this would help make my training more effective & keep me a bit more itnerested
From my personal experience chest based HRM is much more accurate. So during training I wear this model. Very good for running with the additional metrics it provides. One word of warning - using it in the swimming pool is tricky. When tumble turning or pushing off the wall the HRM monitor slips down your body. This means that it is very useful for open water swimming, but I use it rarely in the pool and if I do I gently push off the wall.

Hi, I think you might be referring to t he Garmin HRM tri? A different model. That one has the running metrics capabilities built in (this one doesn't) but doesn't have the super grippy pads and wider belt that this one has to keep it in place in a pool. Maybe you should get this one for your pool swimming!

Pool water is quite aggressive due to chemicals. So HRM-Tri will not survive for long in pool use. I think manual says something like couple of dozen uses.
Gotta agree with OP. Swimming IS so boring. 10 mins in the pool and my mind is desperate for some kind of stimulation.
Why would you go through the pain of getting Amazon to price match instead of buying from Wiggle?
