As we've got a few angry car drivers, let's have a refresher of the rules of the road

Rule 163
Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should
give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car

How the @ could you "accidentally clip a cyclist" if you gave them that much space???

we all know the haterz only be hating because they aren't fabulous enough to rock the lycra.

So, i have a question for you - is it true that if something is behind you but travelling at the same speed - this device won't register it? That sounds like it could be dangerous?
I have one, paired with a 1000 head Unit and a vision eyepiece. Literally if I had to give up everything but for one piece of tech when cycling, this is what I’d keep. Sod Di2, eTap, even carbon. This is just safe. So many times I just slightly move my body position to account for a car I now know if coming, or turn my head to acknowledge to a car (that I didn’t hear) that I know he’s there and I’ll get out of his way ASAP I’m a driver myself and know just being acknowledged and knowing you won’t be too inconvenienced makes all the difference. The wife won’t go out with me without it now. She hears the Garmin beep and just drops into single file, no words needed any more. Same with training partners, and they can track how close the car is by looking at my rear light changing the number of LEDs showing.

I personally haven't found this. Mine has registered every car following but then maybe I am not peddling quick enough

don't forget additional 10% with british cycling membership when shown in store
too expensive item to get nicked while on the road
Worth noting that this is only of use if you have a Garmin head unit. To my knowledge, it doesn't have any of the extra functionality for Wahoo/Lezyne etc units.
Thread tidied - this is @redcup 's deal thread please let's not derail it - MISC is the place for general debates and even then posts should remain courteous and non-aggressive as per forum guidelines - something that some of the deleted comments failed to follow.

Posts re-quoting deleted posts have also been deleted so apologies to members who also included feedback on the actual deal with their quote reply.
Amazon seem to have price matched this.
Never seen these before, fantastic piece of kit. Heat given.

your not cycling quick enough
At this price, this is worth a punt. Wiggle will price match also.

I personally will be giving this a miss, simply due to the fact the light is no where near bright enough at 15lmn.
Heat added.

Also massive KUDOS to the mods for stepping in and deleting the hater comments. Cyclists are flesh and blood with families who love them. Lets remember that next time you think its funny to joke about putting them in danger.

My own experience of commuting is that a lot of people do give this sort of room (thank you!), then you get those who pass closer but I can totally understand and it is an accepted part of the ride for me.

Then you get people who come far too close - this is just pure horrible for anyone on a bike. It is thankfully rare, but if it happens only once on my commute,, it happens 10 times a week 400 times a year. That is what I find unacceptable.

Isn't it about time that part of the license test was going out on the road on a bike? People have to be made aware of what it feels like if you are exposed on a road in moving traffic. There have been some very positive results and feedback from these experiences for truck drivers (Likewise, it works the other way with cyclists sitting in a cab and appreciating the limited visibility close in to high sided vehicles, for example).

I've got one of these and use it daily with an Edge 1000 cycle computer. You are sort of correct. If a car is coming up behind you, the computer beeps and you can see the dot approaching, but if it then slows down to your speed (waiting to overtake) the dot representing that car does eventually disappear.

It is excellent for improving your awareness of what's going on behind you and I wouldn't be without it, but I still always look behind me before maneuvering because the radar does not always paint the full picture of what's going on behind.
How is this for brightness?

Also, what about battery life?

Should answer your questions.

One of the best bits of bike tech I have bought - I ride on a lot of country roads so it gives an extra bit of comfort. Particularly useful to know when there is more than one car waiting to come past you :-)

Got mine last night and must say I am extremely impressed!

Setup was a breeze with the edge 1000 and it seems really solid and very bright (brighter than I expected).

One question though, I think it is meant to turn on/off via the edge, does anyone know how this works?

Mine turns off when I switch off my Edge 520. It doesn't seem to turn on in the same way. Maybe there is some other config change that needs to be made on the head unit?
