Love this watch and it has never been cheaper than this. If your looking for apps and smart features then go for a smart watch like apple or something on Android . I personally dislike the square face hence choosing the VA3. When I bought mine VA3 music was fractionally more expensive than the standard VA3 but I decided to get it as it looked much more professional and less plasticy.
Advantages of the Garmin are a little in the fitness tracking realm and most definitely a battery that last 4 days. With GPS and auto tracking off it lasted me over 10 days. 3 with heavy tracking which the Apple watch wouldn't have even lasted throughout the day.
Sleep tracking is also possible in VA3 as you are likely not charging it. Talking about charging, I usually charge mine for 5-15 minutes a day as I get a quick morning shower setup and brush my teeth. I don't think I had to charge it in months at other intarvels.
Screen is readable in sunlight. Oh yes and my most valuable feature of the Garmin is that it's phone independent. Meaning I have three mobile phones 2 iPhones for work UK and foreign number, and my personal android with UK number. It will connect to any of the phones and display the notifications and syncs with any of them to Garmin cloud so they are all updated. Apple watch or android can only be paired to a single device. During the day I get notifications from my work phone , otherwise my personal.
Notifications come up on screen and you get a very good vibration so I my phone stays in vibrate mode all along. On Android you can choose from the mobile companion app which apps are allowed to send notifications so persistent notification and useless apps don't get across. Silent alarms are also something your partner will definitely appreciate.

Excellent watch for the price.

Purchased for an older relative whom does some gym fitness, but also wants the day-to-day fitness tracking features.

Great review, thank you, I'll try one
This is the cheapest price i've seen, thanks and great review too.

I've noticed the john lewis deal has a 2 year guarantee, is it just one year from amazon? I'm not sure if the 2 year guarantee from john lewis is actually worth anything.

In my experience it is. If anything goes wrong in 2 years you can walk into a store and get a new one/refund. Did that when my wife's Fitbit Charge 2 broke and was given a new Charge 3. To be fair, Amazon customer service also pretty good but I prefer being able to go to a physical store rather than online chat.

This is good price for a great watch. Unless you need music then I think the VA3 at this price is better value than the VA4.

I'm not sure whether to go for this or the Fitbit Versa 2 with the echo included. I'd be using Spotify, tracking my fitness and using the pay function. Obviously the Garmin is cheaper but can you listen to songs on Spotify in offline mode? Ideally, when I go for my run I don't want to have to take my phone out with me. Any help would be appreciated.
this or the 735XT forerunner?

is there much difference

I don't think this version has spotify. I think you have to go for the music version, which is £180 in Argos
Had this since april 2018. Couple months ago one of the software updates broke something and the watch would not last two days on single charge.

Mine works well, did you try hard resetting the watch

I have the 735XT and the mrs has the va3. The 735XT is more of a serious fitness/tri watch, things like physical buttons rather than swipes. However the va3 is very good and she has loved hers.
Halfords are currently selling the black version for £129 too which may benefit some people.

Potentially even cheaper if you work for the NHS or have a Blue Light Card:

Details here

You still get a 2 year warranty as this is provided by Garmin.
