Gas 5.41p per KW from Ebico - No Standing Charge / No Cancellation fee and standing charge - NO

Found 31st Oct 2014
I've been looking for a cheap Gas only deal and found this.

5.41 p per KW (about 2p per unit more than the cheapest but if you are a low user like me the lack of a daily charge of on average 20 - 25p per day wipes this out)

No Standing Charge / Daily Charge

No Cancellation Fee

All customer spay the same rate irrespective of payment method including quarterly billing.

MSE use Ebico in their cheap energy comparison tool.

Electricity rate is 18.94 p again with no standing charge but if you use a lot of electricity you are probably better off paying a standing charge along with a lower unit price

From their website "EquiGas and EquiPower are supplied under SSE and associated brands Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro and SWALEC, all trading names of SSE Energy Supply Limited"

I took out a dual fuel fixed for a year deal last year with Scottish Power, that was a no standing charge deal, a couple of months ago I noticed that I was paying a standing charge so I rang them about it they say by law now that every company has to add a standing charge on their deals to make it simpler for customers. so I'd double check that you dont pay a standing charge on this deal

Confirmed on home page ebico.org.uk/

Personally I would be wary of a company, in response to you querying why they had added a standing charge without telling you, telling you that a standing charge was required by law.

Partially true. The standing charge can be zero if they want.

I've been with EbiCo for over a year for both gas & electric and there is indeed NO STANDING CHARGE.
As a low user of electric and gas (due to woodburner & solar panels & no more kids at home) this is the best deal going.
I check periodically for better deals, but haven't found one yet (due to most if not all charging a standing charge.)

Oh, and just to add, my bills from EbiCo are from the parent company SSE.

I do use them and no standing charge..very happy with service

Yep has to have a SC by law but it can be zero.
Genius. What would we do without Ofgem I don't know.

I pay 4.22 p/kWh but my standing charge is only 2.55p/day; with First Utility. Been with them for years and never found a cheaper deal.

So they have done you hard in the middle of the day....

Ebico is only good for very low users, been customer for 5 years until moved to larger house and larger energy bills - switched to Daligas for gas and BG for electricity. For me it works out cheaper than any dual fuel tariff.

joined first utility a few months back & really happy with them for both gas & electric

I switched to them a few months back after British gas started charging a standing charge and the first I knew of it was when i had a bill come through. Its an empty property and by the time I knew about it and made the switch I paid 98 pounds for under ten quids worth of electric and gas!
No problems switching to Ebico at all, and have had no problems with them.
If any one is switching when you get the idiot on the other end of the phone tell you that every one has to charge a standing charge tell them yes but no one told you how much you had to charge I had a huge argument with the guy from British gas when I switched he insisted they had to charge it and its against the law not to!

I must be a heavy user. This is 65% more than my current deal.

Have been with Ebico for 3 years now for Gas, no standing charge.
Standing charge by law - that's all B.S. there is no such law.

And who is your current deal provider?

I joined First Utility last March and it's the worse move I have ever taken. Customer service is atrocious. They haven't even supplied my previous supplier my final reading yet !!! Stay well clear of these cowboys. OVO energy look after their customers much better but just forget First Utility or join them at your peril.

I was with Ebico a few years ago but gradually each year they put their prices up and eventually when I did a comparison they became as expensive as the big boys.

With regard to Standing Charges I have just applied to switch to the N Power Feb 2017 fix tariff and there is no standing charge for the electricity part of the tariff.

Been with Ebico for 4 years, we are low users for gas and elec, and I do compare every year to make sure it's still cheapest around for us, and it is

Ebico are very good for my gas, being with them for more than 2 years. No independent gas transporter fee, saves around £40 a year. Electricity isn't the cheapest in the midlands, i can get a a cheaper rate from npower. £15 voucher on refer a friend on dual fuel.
