Saw this is tesco in plymouth yesterday. In store special. Not sure if nationwide and still full price on the website
If you're in the market for one it might be worth checking out!

Confirm if it is in YOUR store if you can

That's an absolute bargain if you can get it.

I've tried the Coventry stores and it's still £599 so must be a local offer. Shame as was just what I was looking for!

Seems to be quite a few offers from plymouth - is it a new store ?

tesco's thetford have some at 469.00

I got one of these a very months ago with the play.com offer at that time. Excellent piece of kit for the price if you can get it. Screen is brill and it is loaded with 2Gb of RAM and 160GB HD. I would not hesitate to get it at this price.

No joy at Whitstable and £599 at Broadstairs :-(

nope no good at weston favell, northampton either
just rang up still £599 there

Was told by Broadstairs that they have another model at £349, maybe a bit of a mix up here?!?!?

Original Poster

I was stuck on the model too but the one instore definitely had 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, the 1.73 5300 processor and this is the one that comes up online as having the same specs.. Had the big yellow stickers as reduced

Not in a new store or an extra - mid-size store in crownhill if anyone is near.

Sorry if not around elsewhere

Sombody probably just moved tickets around!

I have the one from play.com and it is absolutely fantastic. Will be a cracking buy at this price.

£499 at my store.

beckton tesco still have theirs at 599.

Well can we be sure? the ticket might say one price and it might scan through at another.

I am going into store in a few hours to check.

Just checked Wath upon Dearne , near Rotherham. £599 :-(

Something strange about this offer as Barnsley store have them in stock at £499. Looks like someone's got the labels mixed up :-( , or Plymouth are just more generous :-)

none in notts either

buy it quick!!!! even if it goes thru at full price you`ll then get double the difference because they`ve advertised wrongly!!! this is tescos overcharge policy.

Walsall, Brownhills and Cannock haven't any laptops.

Stafford have the model but it's £499

£499 at Southport

none in Birmingham

Romford and Pitsea store £599

this laptop currently gets u an extra 999 clubcard points as well.

Why don't we all ask Tesco to sell it to us for £349.
They could shift £5000 worth of stock that might normally just sit there.
Demand & Supply!!

can someone check the plymouth store?

Gateway has been churning out some impressive, low cost notebook computers of late and the 6839b continues the trend.

It’s exclusive to Tesco but, at £600, sounds like a computer without much clout. This isn’t the case though and what we have here is a Vista Home Premium notebook with a high-quality chassis at a bargain price.

An Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 processor, running at 1.73GHz, powers the MT6839b and a generous 2GB of memory means lots of programs can be run at the same time. A 160GB hard disk provides ample storage.

This combination of hardware means Vista runs very smoothly and has the power to handle just about any software application with ease.

One area the notebook doesn’t perform well in is in gaming. Intel's integrated graphics just isn't powerful enough to run the latest troop of 3D games. It can handle Vista’s 3D flip function, though.

The 15.4in widescreen display has a glossy coating to improve contrast. It also proudly boasts ‘Ultrabright Widescreen’ and, while evenly lit, the screen is actually a little dimmer than on more expensive notebooks.

The left side of the notebook is home to a multi format DVD writer and cooling vent that keeps the unit noticeably cool and quiet.

The right side houses four USB ports, network and modem sockets, a memory card reader that caters for SD, MMC, Xd Picturecard and Sony Memorystick but not Compact Flash. There’s also a Firewire port that makes it easy to connect a digital camcorder.

Wifii and Bluetooth technology are hidden inside for connecting to the internet and other devices wirelessly. The only features missing are a TV tuner and webcam; corners cut to keep the price down.

Solid construction and a low price don’t usually go hand in hand, but Gateway has fitted a firm keyboard, responsive trackpad and a steady screen hinge in the MT6839b. A wide, brushed aluminium wrist-rest panel below the keyboard adds a touch of class to the whole outfit and also keeps the top sturdy when typing.

To get working straight away, Gateway has included a small software package that consists of Microsoft Works 8.5, which is fine for basic word processing, and Cyberlink Power2Go for DVD burning.

At 2.8kg (3.3kg including the power supply) it’s not a notebook to carry around for long periods of time but battery life is great. It lasted two hours playing back a DVD with the screen set to full brightness and much longer when word processing, or if the screen’s brightness is turned down.

For those looking to move to Vista without upgrading an older computer, the MT6839b is a great buy. We tested the cheaper MT6825b two months ago, which sports the same design but isn’t as powerful.

The MT6839b only includes a one-year warranty, which is a little stingy, but for £600 it’s still excellent value for money.

£599 at Top Valley, Nottingham.....would of been very nice at £350

It is in store at £499 - reduced from £599 to clear. Also get 999 club points.

Is this still a bargain at £499?

Just went diving down to my Tesco as after a new lappy.

The deal is £499, reduced from 599. Not a bad price and the unit on display looked very solid and nice but after imagining it at being available at £349 it's too rich for my blood though.

Do we get the go ahead to vote this cold and have it removed from the front page as its not available anywhere? Waste of time it being on the main page! Il wait for a confirmation... :whistling:

stock in all shops i called, but all @ 599
called stockton, redcar, durham and middlesbrough

loads of bullshit!

its a great laptop

but the price is 599 -this is the price it is scanning for - i have checked in 4 tesco stores in glasgow area

Up your way maybe, not down here.

Just been looking, reputable sellers on eBay have been churning these out for £400-450 as an alternative.

stock in all shops i called, but all @ 599called stockton, redcar, durham … stock in all shops i called, but all @ 599called stockton, redcar, durham and middlesbrough

i was in the redcar store this morning & there selling for 499.99

right then

I went back to the store this was in yesterday (after persuading the wife that I should go). She says "it was 349, I saw it with you"...but I go anyway and....

well you know it's not that price any longer, it was that price as this model was the only one there with the reduced tag...this is irrelevant

So dock my Rep and beat me senseless with all the tesco receipts and phone bills generated as a result of this......oh and preferably delete it from existence

Better luck next time with the post.....maybe

like the donkey

I have my suspision that lots of posts made here for "instore bargains" … I have my suspision that lots of posts made here for "instore bargains" are probably quite likely from people attempting to gain rep etc - and whilst I never voted on this one, it was one I was suspisious of!However, the clarification above, proves it was a genuine mistake, so many thanks for taking the time to verify that fact and post the details.Cheers.

Thanks - I've never been in this site for the Rep - just the savings and now and again i try and give some back.

.......now please let this post die and sink to the bottom of the non-deal quagmire.

Please no more posts
