Mainly a testing a water.

So I was browsing DX.com and came across this. Seems good value, 8x 3000mAh AA. Reviews seem decent, especially the charger.

Seems good to me, but I'll let you decide. And please comment if you can recommend anything better.

NOTE: 2 Pin EU/US Plug BUT lead is detachable and only needs a 3 Pin UK figure 8. Auto shut off too which seems nice.

NOTE 2: Batteries are actually 1000mAh.

Have DX's shipping times improved? I haven't shopped there in a couple of years but back then orders took far longer to arrive on average than those from most other Chinese retailers.

I am not knocking them or the deal, just wondering...

I've not shopped for awhile but if I remember rightly, ordered a torch and came within a week to two weeks. Anything small will be quick but again can't comment myself. Tempted to order this but might wait first. Looking at UK market, you would be looking around £15 I think for a decent charger and a reasonable 3000mAh 8AA.

Looks OK but batteries have to be loaded in twos and no LED display to show charge progress.

IMHO the best value 8 way charger available at moment is the Vapextech (see link) £16.95 delivered from Amazon. Single channel, LED display and backup from Amazon should it not fit the bill. Yes it costs more but hey these things can and do go wrong, pay the extra for the peace of mind?

and I very much doubt those batteries will be 3000mah... if they are, they won't be for long.

wouldn't trust this personally, dodgy electrics from china not worth the risk IMO of course

If you read the specs, it says mark capacity 3000 mAh; actual 1000 mAh!

I didn't see that myself. Thanks for the heads up. Even at 1000mAh they would still be good for 360 controllers I suppose.

Majority of stuff you buy is made in china, including electrical. Have a small USB battery charger that is probably made in china. Use it all the time without issue. If you also read the reviews, it gets 5 stars.

Then you have to add your batteries on top of that but I do see your point. I mean as long as the reviews are ok I would be willing to skimp I suppose but ya, I'm a cheapskate X)

there is a difference between just being made in china and things being made in china for reputable companies with decent QC policies in place.

Personally i'd never buy anything battery related, unknown brand from china, they are always under the states capacity and often fail very quickly.

If you want just cheap everyday rechargeable you shouldn't really underestimate the Chinese rip offs. Ordered some supposedly 3000mAh batteries and use them for my PS3 controller. They work fine and last a good amount of time. Probably not the stated capacity but still.

DX are still poor for delivery times. I order from them daily and stuff tends to take anywhere from 2-8 weeks for delivery.

On the other hand a company called Eachbuyer deliver within less than a week, well at least they have for the 2 items I purchased from them.

I just wish Eachbuyer had the same stock on their website that DX has so I could swap companies. My customers would be a lot happier.

2 weeks isn't that bad for something that is coming abroad. But c'mon they are in a foreign country, I wouldn't class 2 - 8 weeks as slow.

It is slow when other companies in the same boat can do it in around a week. Even items ordered off Ebay from China tend to come within a week.

Even companies like Priceangels and Focal Price which are almost identical to DX are much much quicker.

When I say 2 weeks for DX I mean one in every 10 items may arrive in two weeks, the rest are basically a month or more.

I believe DX do not hold a lot of their stock, hence why some items take 10 days just to be shipped, by the time they order it in then despatch it other companies could have had it delivered to your door.
