Why are there so few 4Gb kits, or 2GB dimms around?

I'd have thought everyone would be going to 4GB by now..

Ah thats because windows will give you only 3GB at best, even in Vista. That is unless you are running 64bit which works with about 1 in a 1000 apps so no one uses.

64-bit XP or Vista works perfectly fine with 32-bit applications, and works best with x64 applications.
If the x64 drivers exist for your hardware configuration, I'd say go ahead and upgrade to x64, it's about time to go 64-bit!

64-bit Vista works extremely well, and as said above works well with 32 bit applications. 4GB kits are about, but the latencies in most cases are a lot higher at the same speed, unless you want to spend over £300. There is a set of G.Skill thats a 4GB kit runs at 1000mhz at 5-5-5-12 which is impressive but it's not in the UK as of yet.

That's only 667MHz though, the sticks above are 800MHz

Not sure where the shipping cost came from but having just completed my order with the cheapest shipping (Royal Mail 2nd Class - £2.99) a total of £41.10. Still good price hotted!

Just got some thanks. Even though i already have 2gb of PC8500. Having 4gb running at PC6400 will get me into games alot quicker.

Got 2gig of this in my box now, upgrading to 4gig. Thanks :-)

Please bare in mind guys that Windows XP will generally speaking not be able to use the complete 4gb due to technical reasons. If you are running Vista then you need not worry.

creamola

Unfortunately, you do need to worry with 4GB in Vista. This: … Unfortunately, you do need to worry with 4GB in Vista. This: ]http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 explains all.

as allready explained further up thats a 32-bit os limit use a 64-bit os and your fine

This has been on for over a week i got mine last monday and my brand new asus motherboard kept freezing with 4Gb of this in so put my corsair 4gig back and put this in my asrock mobo it all shows up at timmings of 4-4-4-12.

Vista only sees 3074 of it so using a 32bit platform you are giving away a gig of ram all my rigs run on 4gig so ive been swaping to 64bit platforms

This is really fast memory that can be overclocked to close to 1000mhz and should be run at 2.1volts but if you have 4 stick could need 2.3v+.

Advice needed! - I have the Vostro 200 MT, currently with 2GB of 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM.

Will this memory work on this machine?
and if not at its full speed, will this ram run at a lower rate?

Thanks

[sniff] I paid over £300 last november for 4 of these sticks....

Makes a big difference if you have a 64-bit OS. Still makes a worthwhile difference if you are stuck on an older 32-bit OS.

If you any overclcoking you'll probably need PC6400 or greater for the extra headroom.

DAMN just got my ram coming in today OCZ platinum from ebuyer argh. Well it was 49.99 then dropped a fiver so i got mine 44.99 not a big difference

EDIT

Err.... ebuyers got it on special now back at 54.99!?!? Oh well second thoughts i guess i'm lucky then! Looks like lots of well selling items have gone up between 5/10 while the google checkout is back :P

this offer is no longer valid

I had 2 lots in my basket delivered £78-£79 went to get credit card and they put the price up and total in basket went up . dodgy gits and their delivery service 2nd class BTW is terrible its not insured as my previous order has gone missing and have to wait 21 says with OCUK

Now £39.97 with 1st class delivery

Good ram, voted hot

For those not needing the 800mhz and wanting to save a little, try these from Scan on today's today only price (until noon). A good deal for those with free delivery. £26.44 when added to basket. scan.co.uk/pro…582
