So the will of the elite few over the hardworking masses is not relevant anymore? Tell that to Boxer working himself to death (or 75 years old for example)
I personally think we should start burning books to stop spreading misinformation about our glorious establishment..

Just keep in mind that that despite what the government believes, 1984 is supposed to be a warning, not a manual.

I said less so, and I believe it is.
The power of a book is the indelible impression it leaves on the mind.
I haven't read either in 20 years and still remember them.
Lord of the Flies is another.
Animal farm is definitely relevant, maybe even more so with the rise of veganism in recent years. Yes I know it is about Communism and Dictatorship, but quotes like "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others", and "Four legs good, two legs better!" are poignant to most people's attitude towards "livestock".
Just keep in mind that that despite what the government believes, 1984 is supposed to be a warning, not a manual.
Orwell was pretty much spot on since he was one of the Elite anyway, I do believe he got a guilty conscience about it all though in his later years.

Eric Arthur Blair was born middle-lower class with next to no wealth in the family far from elite
A Marxist, a democrat and a right wing dictator went into separate rooms to read these books. All three came out and declared that their beliefs had been reinforced.
Pigs with their noses in the trough. Sound familiar?

The Telescreen in your home that watches and listens all of the time. Anything spring to mind?

Read more about him.
Orwell was very prophetic.
The publisher of Nineteen Eighty Four is Penguin. Also the title is Nineteen Eighty Four, not 1984, so this looks to be a bootleg.
Is this the Newspeak version?
still relevant today. sadly.
Fantastic price, thanks OP
Very powerful books but 1984 never really gripped me as a story. Incredible world building and philosophy but not much in the way of interesting plot, in my opinion. The parts that were interesting were quickly replaced by more world building and history.
I guess Alan Moore's V for Vendetta spoiled me a bit when it came to these sorts of dystopian stories, as his is my favorite.
Absolute must read though for anyone who hasn't.
the uk is very 1984

Right now aren't Venezuela and Hong Kong perfect examples now of Big Brother states and Socialism gone wrong (not sure a good example of Socialism exists)

And Brave New World.
If we're not being watched, it's because we're distracted...
He scribes using the app on his mobile device, being careful not to use words that would trigger tracking algorithms.
Lol
While humans remain humans, these books will always be relevant.

you now have to block police on twitter so they dont see your tweets and arrest you
Rather have the books separate.
Does it come with a discounted Alexa for the full Big Brother snooping experience?
Despite all the political comments, this is no deal at all as it's available legitimately and widely online for free.

It gets posted every few weeks and every time it's as if the wheel has just been invented!

I have yet to read either, but since I got my Kindle, thanks to HUKD, I've been reading a lot of HG Wells, and both these books were on my list, but not free. 99p for the pair is fantastic.

Voted hot.

I don't know, haven't you seen what's going on with Brexit?! In 2016 even the hard right such as Farage said we'd have a free trade deal with the EU. Now they claim we voted for no deal, and people even believe they did - when they didn't.

Venezuela introduced socialist policies under Chavez, which were hugely successful and lifted many in the country out of poverty. It's following Chavez's death, the corrupt Maduro gaining power, and an economy solely founded on oil along with the value of oil crashing - in conjunction with US and IMF sanctions, all combined have destroyed the country.

"The Nordic Model" is the best example of socialism. The hard right try to claim it isn't socialism as they still have free market capitalism. Yet Bernie Sanders' and Corbyn's policies both support free market capitalism (idiots try to claim otherwise).

Orwell is out of copyright around most of the world (eg Australia) except the UK (which has absurdly onerous copyright laws to enrich publishers rather than creators), and all his works are widely and legally free to download from a simple Google search.

You want mobi format, and you can use the free "send to kindle" desktop app to upload to your Kindle cloud library.
It's actually my most read book, think it was five times in my youth. Will need to revisit at some point, perhaps, after the clock strikes thirteen?

And the remain campaign was to be in a reformed EU. They've been remarkably quiet on that point ..

It's all part of the game where you give people careful selected options with the illusion of choice.

Unfortunately, the game has been given away this time because the awful proletariat voted the "wrong" way...

Thanks for this. It made me laugh senselessly for a few minutes. I'm off to use my canine teeth for what they were intended.
If you can't be bothered reading the book you can always play the game for free
