Product Description:

‘All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others’

When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master Mr Jones and take over the farm themselves, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality. But gradually a cunning, ruthless élite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, starts to take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they thought, and find themselves hopelessly ensnared as one form of tyranny is replaced with another.

Amazon Review:

Since its publication in 1946, George Orwell’s fable of a workers’ revolution gone wrong has been recognized as a classic of modern political satire. Fuelled by Orwell’s intense disillusionment with Soviet Communism, Animal Farm is a nearly perfect piece of writing—both an engaging story and an allegory that actually works. When the downtrodden beasts of Manor Farm oust their drunken human master and take over management of the land, all are awash in collectivist zeal. Everyone willingly works overtime, productivity soars and for one brief, glorious season, every belly is full. The animals’ Seven Commandment credo is painted in big white letters on the barn. All animals are equal. No animal shall drink alcohol, wear clothes, sleep in a bed or kill a fellow four-footed creature. Those that go upon four legs or wings are friends and the two-legged are, by definition, the enemy. Too soon, however, the pigs, who have styled themselves leaders by virtue of their intelligence, succumb to the temptations of privilege and power. “We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organisation of the farm depend on us. Day and night, we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples.” While this swinish brotherhood sells out the revolution, cynically editing the Seven Commandments to excuse their violence and greed, the common animals are once again left hungry and exhausted, no better off than in the days when humans ran the farm. Satire Animal Farm may be, but it’s a stony reader who remains unmoved when the stalwart workhorse, Boxer, having given his all to his comrades, is sold to the glue factory to buy booze for the pigs. Orwell’s view of Communism is bleak indeed, but given the history of the Russian people since 1917, his pessimism has an air of prophecy. —Joyce Thompson

Fantastic book. Thanks for the heads up!
Great book very apt for the age we are living in. We're all slaves.
Under UK copyright law, books go out of copyright 70 years after the the calendar year of the author's death.

George Orwell died in 1950 so there will be many free copies of this book in 2021.

Great book, I may wait though.

Haha, social democracy is the politics of De Gasperi, Adenauer and rerum novarum. Jon Lansman literally has busts of Karl Marx (father of communism) around his house. Get real.

No Scandinavia . The only Karl worth reading is Popper . Socialism is from the late 1700s (older parts exisit but are not defined as such (its just humans co operating and sharing rescource ) Communism is a derivative that does not work so why your listing it and claiming their all the same is simply a point of ignorance.

Eh, what are you on? I didn't say social democracy and communism were both the same (replying to the wrong comment?) simply that Momentum (the group you were talking about in your original comment) are NOT social democrats (as you tried to imply), hence why the the founder of Momentum has a bust of Karl Marx in his own home! Not difficult to understand. Not that that has anything to do with Karl Popper or Scandinavia.... Weird.

Momentum are far closer to Social Democracy . You showed you failed to understand there are many versions . KArl MArx you made refernce to as you called them MArxists (I'm not a fan hence the reference to Popper !) . If you knew the differnece you would know Scandinavia is a working example of socalism .
