Which is why it's so cheap.

which begs the question, why would you carry it in public without a good reason?

If you use it for your job and its with other tools then thats fine. If you use it for sports like fishing and you have your rods with you thats fine too.

hot - great tool

Well that’s good to know. So when you’re on the way home from fishing with your rods in the car, and you pop in to Tesco’s with this on your belt you’ll be OK:p

This same debate came up on one of these a while back. There is a difference between a hoodie who is in a supermarket with this in his pocket and a mature and respectable person carrying it because they have used or need to use it for something legitimate; and that's why its being carried. If I were coming home from fishing I'd leave it in the car; you don't need it in the shop do you?

I have a Leatherman tool and I use it for a multitude of little jobs. Its always in the drawer in the kitchen and when I need a screwdriver or pliers for a quick job it saves getting the tool box out.

Every service person I know carries a Gerber or Leatherman and the quality is brilliant. I'd highly recommend this at this price.

Well I would not class myself as a hoodie and yet I found myself in a position that I had mistakenly left a camping knife/fork & spoon set in my pocket whilst trying to enter Windsor Castle. It was brand new, and I was with my 6 year old son. Security called the police who then confiscated the tool. I was not even given the chance to show the camping gear that was in my car to verify my story, nor was I allowed to leave it at the front gate and collect it on exit. Nor was I able to just not enter Windsor castle and keep the tool. In fact I was threatened with arrest if I didn't go quietly. With my son in tow I was hardly creating a scene, I just did not buy the fact the tool had to be confiscated. But confiscated it was.

However hot deal and purchased. Thanx OP

For goodness sake people. This is a Bargain Spotters site and the tool is well priced. If you are worried, then dont buy it carry it around in a public place. It really is THAT simple.

Voted hot, but I wont be buying one as I'm afraid of being caught in a public place with it. :-)

But that’s my point to the police there is NO difference in law between a hoodie who is in a supermarket with this in his pocket and a mature and respectable person when you have one of these in your possession.

You should be, I own several Leatherman tools. None of which leave the house now, I only carry a Victorinox cyber tool no locking blade you see.

This is a good deal; I am only trying to make people aware of the dangers of carrying these in public:thumbsup:

Do we HAVE to have this same discussion EVERY time a multitool deal is posted?

If you are daft enough to do that then you get whats coming!
Perfect tool for my job, ordered thanks.

I'm planning on using it for mugging people, so I should be OK from a legal perspective.

Very nice multi tool. Bought one myself previous for more. If you do an internet search you can get a set of accesories (screwdriver, torx, allen) , including pouch that will fit the Gerber multitool and accesories in frontpouch. (£9.95)
The only downside of this multitool is the standard philips screwdriver on it. Does not fit good due to being very thin. Hence the accesories

The law on locking knifes is stupid to say the least, if you want a knife for bad uses you would take a nice big sturdy 9” kitchen knife not a 3” multi tool knife. As for the police issue for this, I wouldn’t worry too much, how many times have you been stopped by the police and searched? And for that matter you could probably beat the **** out of someone with your fists and get community service, I assume the chances of being prosecuted for carrying this instead of a non lock one is one is negligible.

Fair enough that's a good reason for carrying it around in public. … Fair enough that's a good reason for carrying it around in public. :whistling:Anyway HOT! Don't use it for mugging purposes though or any other sort of knife for that matter!

A gun is much more effective.

Yes, I believe that we do, due to the fact that there are new people coming to this site all the time that may not have seen any of the earlier discussions and so need to know about the potential problems of carrying a lock-knife.[/SIZE]

And the law on knives is because some arse in government didn't understand the difference between a Lock Knife and a Flick Knife, Muppets!

I mean you wouldn't want the mugger accidentally cutting their fingers when the knife blade folded as they tried to stab you!

I purchased this a month ago when they were 23 quid and it's brilliant. This is my second Gerber - I've also got the 600. The Gerber range is excellent and as I work in IT carrying one saves me carrying a toolkit around.

There is one slight quibble - the scissors on my suspension did not work properly until I had modified the spring. QC slipped up a bit there.

I've got a very similar Gerber to this (not sure of the model, but the tools are identical) and it's a good tool. However, it does need to be kept well oiled to prevent rust - I've been a bit disappointed with the way mine's rusted. Admittedly I use it for sailing and it's exposed to salt water regularly, but I rinse it in fresh water and it still got to the stage where I had to completely strip it down and properly de-rust it.

I would like to thank the Attorney general for his sage advice.

3 years ago I was stopped entering the ring of steel “London” at 4 AM on a Saturday morning in a rented van. I had in the van a good set of tools for dismantling office furniture and computer racking. I was advised by the Police officer NOT to wear my Leatherman tool on my belt but to keep it in my tool bag. He questioned my need for the Leatherman when, I had so many tools in the van.

Gerbers & Leathermans are top notch, and should last a lifetime of looked after. Good price from what I can tell so shouldnt break the bank for a general purpose, handy to have, type of tool. Good find!

i bet he used that patronising tone as well

i think its a great deal & tool, just a shame that you can't wear it where you want, but i have my stylus that i use with my iphone,i can take someones eye out with that

Great price for an excellent bit of kit. Anyone got a link to the accessory pack mentioned in an earlier post? Heat added.

I use this at work and its fantastic, other people have different gerbers and also leathermans, and they all say that for the price this is a steal!! Voted hot

And i quote from that link...

"It will be far more difficult to justify on the streets of a city or town, but there will be occasions when someone is genuinely going to a martial arts sport or scout meeting (which is easily checked)."

So what martial arts sport is there that uses lock knives?

What's the reason for having a good reason?

Thanks - ordered.

My old swiss army isn't as sharp as it used to be, and I once slightly cut myself as the blade didn't lock. I've used it many times since, but that feeling of the fact it could snag and flick back wasn't very reassuring. I want to know that my tools won't let me down, and this would be great for my next camping trip.

Cheers!

I bought one of these for my dad at Christmas, paid more, but was worth every penny. Great tool. Im going to order one for myself now

That is not what i asked. It is not a discussion.
The law states it is illegal to carry a locking blade or blade over 3" in public without a legit reason.
If you carry it in public there is a VERY SMALL CHANCE that it MAY get confiscated.

That is the be all and end all. No discussion.
Anyone ordering this item will have a legit reason to carry it... anyone who wants to use a knife with any malicious intent would not be spending £20 on a multi tool let alone using one.

That being said, Its a hot deal and im struggling to stop myself buying one as a backup for my leatherman.

Thanks been looking for a good deal on one of these or a Leatherman.

If you carry it in public there is a VERY SMALL CHANCE that you MAY be prosecuted. Said prosecution would then have to be disclosed to any potential future employer
