Does amazon not usually sell these for cheaper?

this is what you really need The Chinese Military Shovel, the Swiss Army … this is what you really need The Chinese Military Shovel, the Swiss Army knife of shovels

My vote goes to the shield

Got one of these from work, half decent compared to some

I've got one of these and it's good quality.

Useful for chopping your arm off, but no good at chipping bits off boulders.

How do these Gerbers compare to leathermans. I know it's RRP is a lot less but I don't know how much of a Leatherman's price is just for the brand name.

I have owned both makes and Gerber are certainly a decent quality product, for me though Leatherman are most definately a cut above (if you excuse the pun!) and just beautifully made kit.

Good price for this item though, well worth the money.

In my opinion Leatherman’s are much better, but then they should be for the price they cost

Can anyone recommend a suitable leather sheath for this please

Totally agree i have both makes i also purchased this Gerber in May 2010 from Amazon priced then at £19.58 which as far as i'm aware has never been at this or lower again.
If your thinking about purchasing don't hang about or make no mistake if there is a demand the price will rise (dynamic pricing)

Not much in it in qualitywise in my opinion and I've used a few of both brands. The one advantage I can see over the leatherman is the spring loaded pliers of the Gerber - a godsend if you only have one free hand available - but takes a bit of getting used to.

BTW According to a rep I once spoke to from Gerber they actually started out as a sub-contracted manufacturer for Leatherman before they came up with their own brand of tools?

Just realised that spring-loaded (which these have) and one-handed opening (which I was actually referring to) are two completely different things - these are similar to a standard leatherman

good deal cheapest its been on amazon for a while

I have 2 leatherman's both about 10 years old and they look 'at a distance' like new. My Gerber on the other hand which is about 5 years old looks like it's been in a cement mixer with a couple of shovels of gravel for a week.

Not sure if all Gerbers have coated handles but those that do, the coating does not seem to stand up to much (I've looked at second hand ones on e-bay to confirm my suspisions)

Ive been using Gerbers and Leathermans for years...in my opinion the Gerbers are far far better quality. The Blades last far longer without sharpening, the Rust protection is far superior (In fact my leatherman juice started corroding just before / after 12 months use!) and the usability far more practical.

Nice find however Now showing out of stock:

Just need to buy a rather large pair of pants to fit it in your trouser pocket!

Got mine today. It is really high quality. I bought one of THESE to go with it and it fits in the belt loop of the nylon case perfectly. You obviously won't be able to use the belt loop as well but it's good for storage. The plyers are spring loaded so can be used with one hand. I would say that this multi-tool is well worth the money (even at the £40 RRP I wouldn't bet upset with it). There is only one negative that I have found so far. I can imagine that the philips screwdriver won't be that great. It is kind of flattened to save space so it may not get the best purchase on the head. Still better than using a flathead for philips crews but not as good as a proper screwdriver. Thanks OP for posting.
