Too bad that Dusseldorf - Weeze airport is over 1,5h away from Dusseldorf
Edited by: "ciechanm" 28th Dec 2014

So is that from Stansted?

Looks like a bargain - Is 'Weeze' somewhere you can stay and are there things to do there ? - Or is travelling to Dusseldorf a necessity ?

1.5 hour , which way are you walking

What to do in Germany?

There is a RAF base/museum just outside terminal with some 2nd world war facts.

Usual Ryanair then 50miles away from the actual destination they advertise...

it's 80km away, according to Google Maps 58 mins.

Add 15 euros for the bus to dusseldorf

Great news for the German market.

Yes, I preferred it before we remodelled Dresden.

Bet you've never been....

I've lived in south Germany for the last 3 years and the food is diabolical, the people never smile and obsess about and worship rules. There also isn't much to see in Germany compared to other countries in Europe.
The positive is that from southern Germany it's not far from France where the opposite of all the above is true!

Nothing in Weeze but you don't necessarily need to go to Dusseldorf. It's a handy airport for those that like their football - Dortmund, Schalke, Monchengladbach, Leverkusen and Cologne are all close by. Fly there at least once a year.

:-) I'm often back though and I spend a couple of months of the year back in the UK. Of course nothing beats hotukdeals for buying all the stuff I really don't need just because it's cheap!

Describing Weeze as Dusseldorf is amusing

Ok so have you actually flown with Ryanair and had a bad experience or are you joining the crowd in saying they're a bad airline? It's a fare that's £10 each way. If you're expecting an Emirates level of service for that price then you sir have a distorted view of reality

They have double decker trains there. And they're massive!

Google searched and there is NO place in Germany which is in top 100 places to see and explore worldwide

there are some beautiful, stunning cities in Germany, as well as amazing countryside. Plus Oktoberfest is pretty fun too !

This whole threat is so terribly racist. You don't have to go if you don't want to,...

On a different note, Weeze sucks. If you want great value for money book a LONDON CITY AIRPORT to DUS with BA for just over £100 return and have no stress getting to and getting away from the airports.

Happy holidays.

It's quite ignorant to say that the thread is racist... You may want to use a dictionary to learn the meaning of the word 'racist'. A strong word that is bandied about far too easily with many people ignorant of its meaning.

What I would say is worth doing though is taking a flight to Baden Baden which is on the French border. From there you can discover Alsace in France which really is beautiful and has stunning towns, cities and countryside.

For January many fares are there for around 30 pounds return.

Wunderbar!

I used to work in Dusseldorf and be warned this place is a good 30 or so miles outside. Nowhere near the place and doesnt really have a right to be called Dusseldorf at all.

That said, if you are hiring a car etc Dusseldorf is a great place to go. Try the "old town" Alstadt which has loads of bars and clubs. There is a tower with a revolving restaurant in Dusseldorf which is excellent but reserve a table beforehand. I just turned up on the day and got lucky and had a great meal.

Hot! Bargain. Love Germany!

To balance out some of the negatives being said about Germany. Like anywhere it's down to lots of things. I spend time there each year since 2009. Food excellent, transport excellent, people nice. Lots to do and see. Munich is 4th this year and regularly top 5 in The Mercers Quality of Life surveys of Worlds Cites amongst others.
Plus See below
The Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranks 221 cities from Vienna to Baghdad on quality of life.[1]

In 2010, Vienna won the title as the highest ranked city, followed by Zurich (2), Geneva (3), jointly Vancouver (4) and Auckland (4), and Düsseldorf (5). Vienna was again the highest ranked city in 2011, followed by Zurich (2), Auckland (3), Munich (4) and jointly Düsseldorf (5) and Vancouver (5). The quality of living survey is conducted to help governments and major companies place employees on international assignments.

The survey also identifies those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based upon internal stability, crime, effectiveness of law enforcement and relationships with other countries. In this case, Luxembourg is top, followed by Bern, Helsinki and Zurich, all equally placed at number 2.

The survey traditionally shows a strong dominance of German speaking cities in its top ranks.
