does android pay work on rooted phones? my banking app didn't

For folks wanting to try this. Download Android Pay (making sure your phone is compatible - minimum Android 4.4 and NFC), add an HSBC Bank card then use it on any terminal that accepts wireless payment. You don't need to look for those little android pay logos, it works on all. The only thing I found is that your phone screen needs to be active and, that on my S7 Edge at least, the handset needs to be almost in line with the terminal. Too much of an angle and it seems to fail. Hope this helps somebody look slightly less foolish than I have these last couple of weeks trying it out.

Some do some don't. Android pay doesn't work on some Android phones, rooted or not.

good to know, won't work on mine sadly, no NFC

Is this account specific as I haven't received the email yet.

Nice find.

Yes, welcome sir, how can I help you?

Has anyone ever been lucky enough to get it to work? I had two attempts at using it - Tesco and McDs, both times with issues. Far less hassle with the contactless bankcard.

Totally unrelated, but did HSBCs £150+50 switching bonus disappear over the weekend? Was going to do that this week, but looks like all trace has vanished

Mines work several times. Failed the very first time I tried.

It amazes me that you can't use this at the bank machine yet.

As such I still have to carry the bloody card everywhere with me, so that makes using android pay useless cos it's actually quicker to tap my card on the reader as opposed to unlocking the phone to then tap that on the reader.

It'd be much simpler if you could use this at the bank machine, & safer too if you needed to also use a pin at bank machine or in the shops when over the arbitrary £30 limit, as you'd have to be able to unlock the phone & know the pin number.

seems like a nice offer

good offer if you can get the app to work, unfortunately I'm a cm13 user and they won't allow it to work.

I have Debit and Credit card from HSBC but did not receive this email. Wonder if this is account specific.

You can in some countries, but I haven't seen ATMs with an appropriate reader in UK yet

I use it every day because HSBC still haven't given me a contactless card. I haven't received an email about this though. It may just be for new users.

Taking cash out isn't the point. This is supposed to be so easy that you don't need to use cash. You don't drive android pay usage by letting people take out cash. Also, you don't need to unlock the phone to use it, just wake up the screen. To pay over £30 you need to verify yourself via the security you set up with your phone I.e. Pin code or lock screen pattern

Use it about 5 times a day. As long as the phone is flat against the card reader and the screen is awake then it works.

Yes, ended 30th October

Damn, I've just looked it up in my MSE emails ands spotted that. I should've acted quicker. Got to choose between Coop £150 +£4/month or FD £100 +5% monthly saver.
