Get £125 if you switch to Halifax + £3/month

Found 6th Feb
The Halifax Reward account has just boosted its switch offer from £75 to £125 and is the quickest bank to pay its bonus, promising it by the time your switch completes. You can also get ongoing rewards of £3 per month if you meet minimum pay-in and direct debit criteria.

Need-to-knows
  • To get the £125, you need to initiate a switch by 11.59pm on 19 Mar 2018.
  • You'll get the bonus paid into your account before the switch has completed.
  • To get the £3/mth reward, you need to pay in £750 each month, remain in credit, and pay out at least two direct debits.
  • Beware the overdraft – its daily fees can add up, plus if you're overdrawn, even only for a couple of days, you won't get the £3 that month. Do note though that if you switch, you get six months with no planned overdraft fees.
  • You won't be able to get the bonus if you've received any incentive for switching to Halifax since January 2012, or if you're switching from a Bank of Scotland account. Existing customers can get it by switching a non-Halifax account into their existing Reward account.
  • Halifax shares its £85,000 UK savings safety guarantee with the rest of the HBOS group, so don't hold more than £85,000 across the group.

I've been with Halifax for years now and they're genuinely a decent bank.

Mobile app is pretty good and easily accessible and a lot easier to use for day-to-day banking than some of the other high street banks I've been with.

Obviously I can't get the switch reward, but if anyone was borderline, my personal experiences have been positive

If applying for a bank account puts your remortgage at risk you have bigger issues I'm afraid. There is such a lack of understanding and fear around credit checks its crazy. They need to start teaching this in school.

I got this a while back, not a bad app, haven’t had to go in branch though

Use it for my bills account, don’t even have £750 worth of bills but transfer that much across anyway via standing order to get the extra £3 a month then move the extra money back as and when I need it after my d/d’s have all come out

Can’t say no to a free £36 a year!
Was just going to post. Great deal OP.

My friend took that deal and got her 250 quid last Friday. But she can't wait to switch back to Halifax. She will do that next month whilst the offer is still on.

Is it possible to switch out and then straight back?
I did this recently and it was very easy, the switching bonus was in before my old account was even shut down. Switched from a basic account at tsb and this is far better- contactless card, overdraft and £3 monthly bonus on a free account.

Yes but you will not get the halifax bonus as you've had an account since 2012
After clicking the link, am I correct in saying that 15%Cashback available at Morrisons is via this reward account
Best bank I've ever been with, if I could switch to them again I would!
ive currently got 3 Halifax rewards accounts opened before 2012. will I be able to take advantage and take of this offer and open another reward account?

I see, although it states you only can't receive it if "you have previously received any other offer or benefits for switching to a Halifax bank account at any point since January 2012" so I guess it is possible?
Any idea how to check if you've had an incentive since 2012 (I guess send them a mail or call?) - lost track... Pretty happy with them and more than happy to bag a free £125 if I can
What bank would you say is best for a child, i dont want intrest on it but would like to be able to do mobile banking and payin easy do children accounts have debit cards

The online banking is easy to use, similar to Lloyds, much easier to login than Barclays..

Luckily your score is only seen by you, your report is whats important.

The iOS app is terrible compared to others, can take up to 30 seconds before asking for Touch ID/Face ID and no good resolution for plus and X models.
Someone just received money saving expert email I believe

any recommendations for DD's to fulfill the criteria for gbp 3/month reward?
Good to see them offering rewards for loyal customers who've been with them for decades It would be nice to see them offering the same incentive to stay, rather than jumping through hoops to leave and then return. But I guess that's pretty much standard procedure for every big company now.

So we just play the game then....

The score you get with the credit reference agencies means nothing whatsoever. Each bank and finance institution scores differently from each other.

+1000 from me. Positive experience with them and hence me using them for years. My 1st bank account too.....
Thanks for posting, will tell my son about this deal
I’ve already got a Halifax reward account but didn’t have any incentive. Can I open a second one and claim this incentive? Thanks
Hmm... the Halifax's current accounts have very expensive overdraft facilities. A £1200 overdraft attracts a fee of £1.71 a day (apparently it's 1p per day for every £7 you borrow). I use my o/d a lot so it would be extremely expensive for me. I've got a Nationwide account that charges me 50p a day. I actually switched from Halifax to Nationwide because Halifax's o/d fees are really high. If you can live without an overdraft the Halifax is pretty good, but if you can't, like me, then it's bloody expensive.
Better not check your credit rating after switching banks 10 times to get all the bonuses.

Mine was fine after 6 or 7 switches. Not that it means anything anyway.
I've had trouble after switching to Halifax using their online banking and app. As I already had a Bank Of Scotland account I was told I wouldn't be able to create an account for Internet Banking on Halifax so can't use their website or app. Instead the Halifax account just appears when I log into Bank Of Scotland.

All that is ok expect it means no access at all to any of the everyday offers etc that Halifax only make available through their Internet Banking and not on BOS website.

Just to point out that you can get the switch reward (if you haven't had one from Jan 2012). Existing customers can do the switch, so all you'd need to do is open a current account somewhere else online, wait for the card in the post, then 'switch' that to Halifax. All credit to Halifax for being pretty much the only bank that offers the incentive to existing customers (also Natwest's recent offer)

Bottom right: halifax.co.uk/ban…ax/

Why don't you try and correct this behaviour to save yourself the overdraft fees in the first place, out of interest? An emergency fund to dip into would be much more efficient than an overdraft.
Set up a Tesco savings account, I send £1 a month to mine
We’re with Halifax and they are good. The app is fast and works well. We get the £3 each plus an extra £3 in the joint account.
Well, sounds good however Halifax says £15p/m . no worth it.
Does the android app have fingerprint ID login. Seems a trivial thing but the Natwest app is such a breeze to use.
