I thought you weren't meant to use your mobile near a petrol pump in case the electric discharge from you mobile sets fire to the petrol fumes.

Hmm, so now we've to stand around petrol stations fiddling with our mobile …Hmm, so now we've to stand around petrol stations fiddling with our mobile phones?! I imagine that will go down a treat!

I was actually paying at the pump over the weekend using my phone/app and the guy behind me beeped me because it looked like I was just standing there playing around on my phone instead of filling up lol We had a pleasant exchange after I explained what I was actually doing

I heard if you used your phone at a petrol pump the flux capcitor could stop regulating stopping the fuel from being dispensed
Thanks!
Not bad for nowt.....thanks OP!

They tested mobile phones on Myth Buster some time back...even put mobiles into a bucket of petrol and phoned them, tested on the fumes etc etc...all nonsense!!! Nothing happened.
I believe that mobiles were banned from Petrol Forecourts at the start due to the belief that they would/may/could interfere with the electronic readings of fuel taken and the garage would lose some money...again, nonsense!!!
Anyone tried and confirm this works?

Finally someone speaks the truth.

As for the stability of the app it is often down to the lazy sod at the checkout letting it timeout rather than tap accept on the bloody screen, Giltbrook has been broken for most of this year as apparantly they don't have the staff to go test it.
Cheers OP. I downloaded the Shell Fill and Go app when it first came out and found that it never worked in or near Shell forecourts...hopefully it has been revamped and I won't be embarassed trying to pay this time
Thanks OP
Does this not look like to everyone that you just pull up at pump and fill up and then drive off without paying?
I take it it from reading how it works that you don't have to go in to shop at all and thus no receipts or anything.
I've registered to give it a go anyway as a free fiver is a free fiver
Thanks OP!! I have actually filled yesterday but will come in handy during next visit. Any idea when this expires?

Well.... any spark can cause the petrol to ignite... bcs phones are with the batteries... this is dangerous, if I would spot u filling up using ur fone I would shut the pumps down
Thanks OP! Heat added!
Great, all signed up, now just found out my local doesn't support fill up and go, according to the app.
I remember getting the free fiver last time and it worked with no probs. Just did it again, free petrol should be mega heat

Yes Shell sell petrol.
Thanks. Used this last time with no issues. Though I don't generally use shell that often. Their V Power is much more expensive than Tesco Momentum 99 and I just pay for fuel on Tesco gift cards anyway so that gives me 4% (c 5p per litre) off fuel anyway. I'll take this for the free fiver though. You can just select the pump on your phone and authorise the payment and then get out of the car and refuel
Shell must think there is a risk as the opening safety message says "Please be aware that you must not have conversations on your mobile device whilst on a forecourt." Perhaps if you have a heated conversation the petrol vapours might ignite.

Can you please explain how paying by Tesco gift card you get 5c off?
Is there any minimum spending please
Anyone else having problems adding PayPal to fill up go in he app? Tried several times and it won't let me through
I have worked in mobile telecoms for over 18 years and this idea is mostly a myth. You need a spark or electrical charge, phones won't do that. The only issue would be if the phone battery malfunctions. Sure it could happen in 0.0001% of phones but then again you can get struck by lightning or win the the lottery

They'll be buying the Tesco gift cards at a discounted price (4%). I used to buy Tesco gift cards for 10% off so would get 10% off all fuel purchases at Tesco or Esso with a Tesco Express attached to it.

Not working for me either. They've been having issues all day apparently.
