I am 49 and I use the one that I got from the Endsleigh Insurance deal that was posted on here last year. The only thing is with the Endsleigh deal is that you can only get the discounts with NUS Extra and not Unidays (that my college children can get). I think that I paid £9 for the Endsleigh deal and I have recuperated that cost numerous times now. I usually use it in for 10% off in Wilkinsons (Exeter) (but some towns - ie Torquay) have told me that they can't accept it as their town does not have a University (does anybody know if this is correct?)! I also use mine in the Co-op for 10% off (but have now been told by two local stores that they can't accept the NUS card and their Co-op card at the same time). Also, use it at McDonalds where I usually get a free McFlurry (can get a burger as well) when I buy a meal. I will make use of the card if I can get money off anywhere, as the savings all add up over time.

I'm not worried about using it (however, my 15 year old daughter finds it funny that I have one of the cards and use it, but she likes the fact that I can get her 10% discount at Office!), as like somebody else said, you can pretend that you are a mature student! If you go on to the NUS Extra site, it will tell you where you can use the card. Don't worry about your age, etc,, just enjoy making use of it.

Link to NUS discounts, taking advantage of the system this one but heat added anyway:{

hiya, I know this may sound stupid but is this the same as buying the nus card for £12 direct on their website. I am just weighing up whether to buy the theory course or to buy direct as I have passed my test although I could buy it for my sister who needs to buckle up and take her test!

So just to clarify, it's £19 for the course, which then makes you eligible to buy the NUS card for £12 (cost of card is not in the £19)?

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the card? Do you get any sort of code/proof to use NUS whilst you are waiting for the card?

You use your card in Wilkos? Have you done this regularly or was it a one off?

I thought they didn't do student discount. They used to have a bit on their website about how their prices were already good so they didn't offer a discount, but I can't find it now. Other student websites still say they don't do it. I might have to try my luck

Takes a week to get the card usually. You can get the card number to use online within 24 hours of ordering from here:

Absolute nonsense!

After all, the Open University is a totally valid NUS University - and OU students can live anywhere.

Next time, just threaten to report the store to their Head Office / NUS and see how fast they back down

I thought that it was a bit odd when I was told that I couldn't use my card because they never had a university in the town - just remembered that apart from in Torquay, I haven't been able to use it in Barnstaple either. Torquay used the excuse about being a non-university town and Barnstaple said they had never heard about a 10% discount for students and that they never had a university. Perhaps I should ring Wilkinsons' Head Office to check on this.

Thought I might post this.

I use it every time that I visit the Wilkos in Exeter (probably once every 10 days or so) - they accept it without querying it at all. However, I don't think that you can use it on-line.

Thank you both for your replies, that's really helpful

Is this a NUS card or an NUS extra card, is there a difference as the 50% off Spotify requires an 'extra' card.

Is the NUS card valid for 12 months from now, or until the end of Aug only?

How do we apply for the NUS card ???

Can you get the nus card with this course?
