This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Octopus Energy Agile tariff works by tracking daily wholesale energy prices and provides the next days pricing in advance.

The wholesale price is derived from a combination of grid demand as well as the amount of renewables on the grid. So tomorrow (Saturday 23rd May) is going to be bright and sunny (lots of Solar) and windy (spinning those turbines).

When there is too much electricity on the grid national grid have to get rid of it. So rather than waste it, you can be paid to take it. This is called 'Plunge Pricing'.

And tomorrow is a mega-plunge - prices will reach -10p/kWh. That's right, minus 10p. Turn your oven on and earn about 25p per hour! Run your tumble dryer and get (a tiny bit) rich! Sit on your butt, watching TV, and earn cash.

Here's a graph of the average prices for Saturday 23rd March:

Update: Here's the graph for Sunday 24th March:

3469539-inMrG.jpg
Exact prices depend on your region, you can see your prices at smartathome.co.uk/oct…us/. As you can see, prices are negative basically from 1am tonight until 4pm tomorrow.

If you are already on an Octopus smart tariff, such as Go or Go Faster, you can switch to Agile easily, online, and it will go live at midnight. If not, you may want to think about switching to Octopus for the next one of these. Obviously, a smart meter is needed to get these smart tariffs.

I got a bill for the last 2 months today, my average cost was 5.86p / kWh. Obviously with a tariff like this, your mileage may vary, but it is very cheap for 21 hours a day, and expensive from 4pm-7pm. As long as you can move heavy usage (oven, dishwasher, washer/dryer) outside those hours, it is incredibly cheap. If you have an electric car, it's like having petrol at 20p / litre.
Time to dust off the ol' mining rig.

Actual usage quote versus Bulb only comes out at £13 a year cheaper

Comparison of Bulb and Octopus Agile prices for the last week, and my costs:40842217-4TPm7.jpg
Octopus Agile is more expensive 4pm-7pm, and cheaper the other 21 hours. Works out at about half the cost for me.

I’m currently with Octopus - customer service is stunning - no question about it, they are 5 star quality in that area.

Prices are not the cheapest, however, which is why I am mid switch to Neon Reef - outside of the truly abysmal Symbio they were cheaper by £10 pm

Bulb are awful
I left octopus last winter... Just as those Which? Best Customer Service adverts came on....

I almost threw the TV out the door, they were absolutely horrendous to deal with, rude, ignorant, blatantly lied to me, contradicted themselves in the same phone call, took 5+ months to extract my money back out of them, money they shouldn't have taken in the first place, then denied having it (it was an effing Direct Debit, how on earth they thought they could deny that I've no idea...).

Honestly they made Npower look good...
I've been with octopus over a year. Their customer service is excellent and I made a fair chunk from their referral system. Not sure why or how its allowed to post these deals though as they aren't doing smart meter installs for now, so this offer cannot be taken up unless you already have a smart meter.

Just about to switch the property I moved to onto octopus, and have registered interest for smart meter.

I pay a little bit more to have the entirely carbon offset gas tariff.

Switched from BG three months ago. Their customer services are amazing, I've never known a utilities company like it. Plus their rates are excellent and entirely green energy!
Good find
I've had a smart meter (smets2) fitted a few months back with iggloo. Is this tarrif available?
Found Avro Energy are good
I have a smart meter with bulb whom I'm in the process of leaving, as whilst the smart meter reads the electricity, despite numerous efforts, the smart meter just won't connect to the gas. I've given up on bulb, as they just have given up on this issue. Shame, as the referral system has been extremely lucrative for me and the octupus referral scheme has me thinking.

Would this tariff work with my situation with my smart meter? My personal situation means I am often out the house around the peak times.

TIA

Bulb was the best energy company I have been with for best all rounder.
A big bonus was that they paid 3% interest on any credit balance with them.

Ridiculous comment. Octopus have a 4% market share and have been growing rapidly. The smallest of the 'big six', npower, has 7% and Scottish Power have 9%.

That is what they were paying last year so I prefer them to draw an excessive d/d because they were paying more than my banks interest.

I didn't want smet 1 smart meters but Bulb paid me £15 per fuel (£30 in total) to have smet 1s fitted.
Crazy government scheme to fit smet 1s that only work with one company and WE will in the long run pay dearly for these "FREE" meters.

If the demand is low you have to reduce someone’s output and compensate them for ever kw they are now not producing.
Never understood the need for good customer service from energy suppliers, it's not like broadband where if the quality of the line is bad I'd give them a call. I'd rather go for the cheapest, it's burning the same gas after all.

Power generation can't just be switched off and on based on demand, especially the plants running on thermal / nuclear power. And there is no easy way to store electricity.

In any case, the current reduced demand is a temporary situation anyway. Once we go back to "normal", negative prices will disappear.
This situation is temporary and will not last long.
Bulb is great. I had been with them about two years. Never had a hiccup. Changed to Avro last month. Bulb refund me any credit in the account straightaway.

Had the same issue, moved house and was on Shell Energy when I moved in with a smart meter that only gave readings for the gas. I switched to bulb then I couldn't get any readings on the smart meter (2nd gen I'm told) despite them sending round someone to sort it out.
Bulb did seem interested at first in trying to sort the issue out, but have now stopped contacting me about it, don't know if switching is going to help though.

Should be - any S2 meter and and any S1 enrolled with secure.
I haven't paid for electricity since they installed my smart meters in January. No idea why. The meters work (I can see my usage on their website), but they've only been billing me for gas.

Good tariff at the moment though this. Today is probably the best day ever for it though. The peak price is 13.7p, and that's with a 12p premium.

Only grumble with Octopus Agile is they need to improve how they convey prices and usage on their website. As it stands, third party apps can take your data and show you your usage vs prices in graph form, they can show you usage and prices for any date or date range, they can show you how your price compares to other tariffs, etc. The Octopus website needs at least some of these things. Spending is a bit difficult to track without 3rd party tools.

They’re a unicorn in terms of investment (valued at over £1bil) so I would call them a disruptor not a small supplier.
