For £1 per week, you can subscribe to both The Independent and The Independent on Sunday, for a total of four weeks. I saw this offer in today's edition, page 24.

I went for this offer last time it appeared. You receive vouchers through the post and admittedly I was a little concerned as to how many places would accept them. But I haven't had any problems at all either at small local newsagents or chains like Tesco, WH Smith, etc.

At the end of the four week trial period you can move to one of their standard discounted subscription offers or cancel the direct debit.

Subscribe by one of the following options:

* Visit independent.co.uk/trial
* Call free on 0808 1789 454
* Text 'indy' to 60300

Couple of riders from reading the detail in the paper.

1. The 4 x £1 weeks are NOT 7-day weeks but either 6=Mon-Sat or 2=Sat-Sun vouchers depending on which sub you are intending to continue with after the 4 week trial.

2. You can NOT cancel during the 4 x £1 period : "You are not permitted to cancel within the initial 4-week period."

3. Instead it seems you can cancel immediately after the trial priod in writing and RETURN the unused vouchers that you would have been sent.

Be sure to click the T&C's at the foot of the Indy trial page.

The paper is certainly worse that it used to be, but relatively good during the week (especially Wednesday now Mark Steel column if back from holiday); Saturday paper weak and Sunday paper thin for the money.

However two recent features have got me so angry that I've had to fire off moan to the Editor at first available chance. Can only be a matter of time before they have minor Royals gossip/photos if they do continue they way they have this year without reader feedback!

There are also SOME doubts about its future due to ructions in the shareholding of its parent company and debt deadlines repeatedly manana'd. Still this deal is for 4 weeks at a time from memory, so no great loss, as opposed to 24 weeks subscription which is the normal minimum.

Read newspapers? Does anyone actually do that anymore, LOL how quaint.
All filled with war/bad news/bad politics socialist claptrap and out of date technology and sports news you can get quicker on the Internet.

They don't even use them to put fish and chips in these days. :-)

Is this tokens or delivery?

Edit: tokens.

Waste of paper, save our trees, use the net.

you ever tried doing what you say on a sunny day in your garden or on holiday on the beach? :whistling:

Actually most of the paper from our daily news is printed on recycled paper-and I recycle most of my newpaper in my compost heap and the rest goes to the local council recycling plant,so I don't feel too bad about the choice I make.I would rather sit and read a book or paper than sit in front of my computer but that is just my choice,I don't have a problem with other people's opinion.

I always found if the truth was being tarted up in most newspapers, the Independant often lived up to it's name and reported impartial facts?

I guess biased left wing people say the same and call it right wing b*ll*cks when it doesn't agree with their personal opinions?

Think you'll find when a "lefty" doesn't agree with you, he will try and censor you in the "interest" of free speech !

I spent an afternoon outside the Student Union canvassing some years ago while 2 left wing groups argued about which one should try and physically remove us ! What they didn't seem to notice was that I and at least 2 of my co-canvassers were 6ft +, 17 stone rugby players and we were actually successfully handing out leaflets while they argued amongst themselves.
