Just got this myself this morning, tried it out both upstairs in the same room as my BT homehub, and downstairs through 3 walls and the ceiling (across the other side of the house) - compared to my wireless-g USB adapter this thing is brilliant. As you can imagine in the same room you get an "excellent" signal, but what suprised me is that downstairs and all the way across the house where my HTPC is located next to the TV the signal is also "excellent" and 5 bars signal... whereas before on my wireless-g I got only 0-2 bars and a "poor".
It is a 300mbps speed dongle too, though my homehub is currently configured to 130mbps (can't figure out why)

Anyway, hope this is a help to some people.... I will warn you however that windows needs to install driver device software for this (there is a disc included), but for me that was no use on the HTPC that has no CD drive, so all I did was leave the wireless-g dongle in while I was installing the device driver (through windows update), then when that was done simply remove the wireless-g.

nice one, voted hot, purchased!

Don't thank me guys for the £6.60 price, that's amazon doing that all by itself as usual... changing the deal to a different merchant that is, LOL. Glad you got it for the cheaper price though, paid £8.99 for mine and am still well pleased with it, came in a proper box and everything from amazon.

Never bought from kikatek before so can't comment on that deal at all, plus we aren't allowed to post merchant deals from amazon here are we?

That was a different model wasn't it?

Purchased a while ago from Play after seeing it here, unfortunatley cant get anything above 48mps connected to a Netgear DGND300v2, contacted support got an autoresponse saying no one was available, 4 weeks and counting awaiting response.

Shame was/is a really good deal but as i say dont know why it connects at such a low speed.

Very good price even for 48mps i suppose

Just saw it on amazon
amazon.co.uk/Get…TQQ

Man, I f'ing hate amazon sometimes - they should leave the URLs alone and not switch merchants etc

Maybe so but it looks the piece and is the same brand.
Works a charm anyway.

another for about £6
dealextreme.com/det…688

can't vouch for either of these - but DX reviews seem ok.

those are both only b/g whilst this adaptor is also n!

The one you're talking about has 150 on the stick yeah? this one has 300. Just means that yours does 150Mbps on wireless N, this one 300.

NOW £8.37!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to 8.99 from amazon's preferred merchant.

Can anyone tell me if you need to have a Wireless N router to benefit from this? (I suspect the answer is yes..)

Or would I receive better reception on my Wireless G network?

Original Poster

Yes you'd get a better signal if you used an N router, the N signal is designed to transmit further therby giving a better signal over shorter distances than G. In other words if you have a poor signal with G, using N over the same distancve should be much improved.

I've got this for my desktop PC (GetNet GN-621U) and I'm delighted with it. Talktalk supplied me with a G router I'd had for around 2 years and my download speed was less than half with ethernet.

Now I have a "baby N" router (as they describe it, a D-Link DSL-2680, only supplied to Talktalk customers I think) my download speeds have skyrocketed to more than double. As good as ethernet, maybe even better.
