I'll admit I know nothing about bikes but my dad had the same bike for about 10 years, he then gave it to me and I've used it to get to work every day and back for years with no problems. It literally is probably worth £20. But I see bikes now selling for thousands! Am I missing something? Do these bikes pedal for you?

Any bike post and you get this comment.

You are comparing apples to oranges. This is not a bike to ride to work, it's a bike for trail riding. If you don't have the hobby of trail riding then there is nothing for you here. The geometry and set up is not for you to go and get your shopping or get to work. Look at the size of the front ring for a start. You'll look like you're in the circus peddling that to Greggs.

Literally take anything that you enjoy and compare something not suitable for purpose to something that is- Why can't I play VR games on my 300 pound laptop? Why can't I get perfect stripes on my acre garden with my 30 quid flymo? Why can't I take good macro photos with my Chinese android phone?

It's why you can't enter your 100 quid Vauxhall Corsa into a rally.

Explanation of the decade. Well written.

Every time a car comes up, or a bike, or a camera, or a gpu, or anything slightly niche, like a broken record everyone thinks they're the first to say "lol y do things cost money". Best one yesterday was a good deal on a pizza oven, and a guy said it was a rip off as he was happy eating £1 pizza from Iceland.

My missus paid over 30 quid for a lipstick the other day, and I think is a mental amount of money for that. But I don't wear lipstick (often), she does, and the fact I could get a red marker pen for free from a drawer at work doesn't change the deal for her.

People forget this is HUKD and not gumtree.

Not bad. Although for this sort of money you can currently get a Boardman Pro FS. Which would be (is) my choice.
No XT?

Guess Boardman really were cheap, as I was looking at the old Boardman 27.5 inch carbon hardtail which was £1600 and had Shimano XT. Worse forks though. And a while ago.

Still you wouldn't pay £2k or over for an aluminium hard tail with SLX would you?
These are very high end forks though?
German Engineering = Studied Undergraduate in Germany, Studied instrumentation and Measurement at Sheffield Hallam, got a job as an apprentice for German Manufacturer.

Almost UK made?

YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!

I am purchasing a 2.7k bike from them and never knew about this! thanks a lot
I've not tried the Ghost mountain bikes yet but if they are of the same quality as their road bikes I'd be very tempted.
Good stuff

For all the naysayers, think of it as sporting equipment not a bike.
Having said that it's still good for an occasional commute if you have a secure place to lock it in.
Astonishing when you see the price of the fork alone. Bargain!

This bike has its own purpose. It will be real waste if one buy this just to ride around. It will be like using a 4x4 just for school runs

Not gonna bite 🚙🚙
I use my hardtail mountain bike for getting around. Works fine.

I think hard tail mtbs are great for town use - better on canal paths, gravel, jumping off kerbs and cutting over grass.

Better than a hybrid really.

Could always put slicks on.

Will be getting a full sus for trails and convert my hard tail to town use (slicker tyres and maybe a panier) probably.

The full suspension ghost at £3k looks good. Shimono XT.

Could get an electric for that price though to blast to the trails on the bike.
And yup

My bike cost £800 reduced from £1k and my car cost me £100

Priorities

Will be spending £2k on a laptop too.

I use my bike as much as I can and I'm on my laptop most of everyday.

Cars sit unused 90% of the time for most people and polute unless you have an electric charged with renewable energy. Which is tempting and would make me go from spending typically 1k on a car to 10k probably. Just not willing to stretch to 20k for a new electric

Agree for the bike but not for the 4x4 due to emissions
Not a bad price, personally I would be looking at full XT at this price (on hard tail).
What's the insurance like on something like this! Second thoughts, don't tell me.
Sounds like a special move

Don't think that's very realistic on a new bike. You'd be sacrificing other aspects of the build.
I'd much rather have good suspension than fancy drivetrain. Arguably slx is better value. Especially when it comes to brakes.
Bargain, especially with the extra 10% off!
The difference between XT and SLX is minimal nowadays, it definitely isn’t a deal breaker.

Perhaps a bit harsh on my part, slx is good. I managed to get AluTrek Superfly, Sids, xt brakes and SRAM X1 (?) for less, it was about 18months ago.

It's still a good deal, the RRP is a joke though.

Also despite having great experience of using CRC and Wiggle for parts etc, I won't use either of them to buy bikes, tried once with each company and they failed me on both occasions.
