Originally £2200. This is a great price for a carbon frame mtb (with alloy chainstays). Ghost are a German company who make high quality bikes.

I've bought this bike myself when it was on offer at £1300 (https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ghost-rt-lector-5700-mainly-carbon-mtb-1299-99-from-chain-reaction-1252605) and have been very impressed with it

Raleigh is now just a sold-on brand name for cheap far east manufactured bikes, if you have fond memories of them then you will likely be disappointed with any Raleigh you can buy now.

You've lost me there

The same people who own Raleigh also own Ghost

But Ghost is an actual company, Raleigh is now just a brand name.

Out of interest, who are they owned by?
I was looking at these the other day the hard tail is from just over a grand with deore xt crankset/rear mech and slx front mech... As oppose to the sram x7 on full sus...... Both suburb prices if you want a carbon frame bike
I wish people would stop posting deals on the Ghost range... The temptation is getting too much for me!
I just cant be bothered to try and sell my current bike and there is no way I need two

Perhaps I'm really out of date. Have they taken the brand upmarket again? I seem to remember a few years ago the name was being put on any old tat.

HOW Much!! it doesn't even have mudguards so I'd get a wet botty if I rode it on the 320 ish days of the year when it rains
Bargain. oO
1K for a Bike absolutely a rip-off, shouldn't cost more than £250 quid! Cold from me
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
completely irrelevant posts, off-point posts should be migrated to misc, sigh, thanks OP bike looks amazing for the price!

This is an XC bike, I wouldn't recommend it of downhill as it's only got 100mm travel.

Should be great for the single track though and trail centres. Great price too.
Just get a car.
UK is rubbish for bikes compared to some places. They need to fix the roads.

EDIT: Ok so what I wrote above was cause of all the useless talk going on. Kind of irrelevant to a deal for a mountain bike. Not a road bike lol.

I wish I could afford this bike. Looks sweet.
This is a deal forum, all off topic posts removed.

If you want to chat about bikes on pavements, start a thread in Misc.
Well done op, looks a good buy to me, I bought a Kona Band Wagon fron CRC yesterday, but didn't bother posting it as HUKD seems to be a victim of its own success now full of idiots just making stupid remarks to try and get a reaction.
the alu spec ghost has got slightly better spec with mostly xt and SLX also alu stands up abit better than carbon, they can easily chip and mark...allthough im happy with my bikes this is a good deal whichever you choose, voted hot from me..

LOL - you have no idea about bikes then do you! I actually work for justmountainbikes.co.uk and was surpirsed to see a Ghost deal on here as they are a lesser know (In the UK) but increasingly popular German brand. See Ghost and Cube as the Audi and BMW of the bike world if you will in terms of quality and reliability! They also offer better value in realtion to the well established US brands generally.

Raleigh does cheap/affordable family stuff now, like Dawes although Ghost does cater for this market to some degree also.

Anything under £300 is a budget bike and OK for basic use (avoid full suspension like the plague), maybe what you need it for if you do even need one? Popping down the shop, the odd gravel track or local woods once in a blue moon, without going to mad.

At £500 you start to get hydraulic disc brakes which are the most dependable and reliable type, but you'll still have a basic spring fork and slightly better components also.

At £750 you'll get a fork with much better damping as well as more reliable and lighter drivetrain components etc that will take more abuse. And this is just hardtail (front suspension)

Any full suspension bike much under £1000 is simply pretending to be a full suspension bike and will be useless on and off road (heavy and unreliable and I would consider rip offs!), usually you have to spend £1500 upwards for a propper one!

Chain Reaction actually are linked to Hotlines, the Ghost distributor and share warehouses... even though they usually stick to RRPs, on this occasion (as 2013 bikes are about to drop) I can assure you this is a smashing deal if you want a light full suspension bike and are happy with only 100mm of travel making this bike more of a horizontal speed machine, hence why they haven't sold as well as the popular AMR range with 120mm and the AMR plus range with 140mm, which are classed as 'All Mountain'. Downhill takes you to 200mm!

It really is like comparing cheap tools that you can buy in Aldi that will break on 1st use to professional quality Makita. If you are a tradesman you want Makita!
This is a Cross Country/race bike rather than Trail. It may be okay for Trail Centres depending on the difficulty of the route.
In my opinion, the rear shock is garbage & there is no way it should be on a bike over £2k - it should be a Fox Racing or at worst a RockShox Shox.
Also, the bar is incredibly narrow - 620mm is tiny. Most bars are approaching 700mm or more these days although this appears to have bar-ends which confirms my race opinion. Most of the other components appear ok.
If you're considering buying this bike, but think carefully about how you would use it.
Anyone found the weight?
http://www.ghost-bikes.com/en/bikes-2012/bike-detail/rt-lector-5700/
11.8kg

edit: oops, that's the 2012 version

Bit of an odd fish this bike, definitely seems more aimed at racing, rather than pootling around trail centres.

Nice bikes about that's for sure , wish I was 30 years younger I might be able to ride one . Even I can see the quality of the build just from the photos .

Great weight for a full susser. although can't find its niche. Still want one!

Already got like 3 bikes now, this is flipping desirable...

On the subject of its suitability off-road; I did the CRC marathon at Abergavenny a couple of weeks ago and I was very happy with its performance. Admittedly I did max out the suspension though.

BTW If you think the pictures of this bike look good, you should see it in the flesh! It's difficult to decide whether to ride it or hang it on the wall
Saw this in their shop. Looks amazing. Can't believe I spent nearly 2k on a bike about 4 years ago, this is so much better. An excellent bike for xc and moderate downhill. If only I had the spare money.

Can morons please stop posting stupid stuff on these sort of threads. If you think a mountain bike costs £175 then can I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself. It's a real pain reading 20 irrelevant and mis informed posts when trying to get good info on a deal.

Are you familiar with this specific shock? It seems an odd-comment to dismiss it in preference of any Fox or more importantly RockShox shock - they make shocks with a lot lower RRP than this example....

I don't have experience with it myself, but it does sound to me like you are blinkered by brand names...
Na that is a basic shock, usually only found on the cheaper end of full sussers. I couldn't find a review, because it looks like it's an OEM type thing, that you don't buy separately, but bikeradar.com/gea…932 mentions how basic it is.

The 7700 (next one up in this range), uses a Fox Float RP23, for reference.
Great buy but only get it you actually need a bike with half decent rear suspension.
Was looking at this earlier on but ended up getting a cube reaction gtc for the same money, I still think I'd go for the HT albeit I wouldn't mind a test ride of a mid range FS
How spooky,

I was reviewing this whilst the Wigan chelsea match starts up on TV.

Buy this bike and the new Chelsea "third" black n yellow away strip and you're the best matching set-up on the trail!

That'll put off most then!!!
