Giant Boulder mountain bike - cheapest decent bike around? £199.99 @ jejamescycles (RRP £250)

The Giant Boulder seems to be the cheapest decent mountain bike I can find and this is the cheapest I can find the 2010 model in stock, in a range of sizes with free delivery (RRP is £250) (2009 model can be found for £10 less, but not at dealers who meet HUKD standards).

I'm still waiting for my Gary Fisher Wingra to arrive at Evans Cycles but if it turns out to be no good I'll have to go for this as the kids are desperate for me to get a new bike so I can keep up with them (my bike was stolen years ago and my built-from-bits-out-of-skips-steel-framed-Specialized-Rockhopper has dodgy gears and a frame that's too small so it does my back in).

If anybody knows of anything worth buying for less (no steel-framed full-suspension bikes please, but any hard-tailed MTBs or hybrids considered) I'd be really grateful!

If you fancy something a little … If you fancy something a little different..http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/giant-escape-mini-1-city-bike-id42884.html#info

There was an intersting interview with the designer of Graham Obree's carbon-fibre Lotus bike on Radio 4. He did some work for Giant and said they were very open to crazy ideas, much more so than European manufacturers. I wonder if this was one of his crazy ideas?

jejames also have the 2009 Boulder for £190 but aren't allowed on HUKD because it's a sole trader.

This Rock rider 5.2 from decathlon has slightly better components for the same price.

Comes with 5 yr warranty on the frame and 2 yrs on the other parts.

Also look at the Diamondback outlook for £179 with lock out forks

If there is any chance that you could stretch your budget to £240 while halfords have the extra 20% off offer running then the Carrera Vulcan Disk at £240 is a star buy with 100mm travel forks with lock out sram x3 and x4 gear components and mechanical disc brakes.

£10 cheaper and given my previous experience of jejames customer service I'd buy elsewhere if it was £10 more!

Sorry, that was what I meant to say in previous post when I said jejames had it. But Apparently cyclesportsuk are a sole trade and therefore not allowed on HUKD. Intersting that you reckon they offer better service than jejames.

Thaks for the tips - especially the Giant Mini City One, which looks easy to carry down the steps to my basement flat and store. But I went for the Gary Fisher Wingra hybrid at Evans - really light bike and easy to ride (much easier on my back than my old Specialised - I need to find it a home now!)

I bought a bike from these clowns before Christmas and will NEVER use them again. They sold me a bike they didnt have in stock then fobbed me off for 2 weeks then sent me a bike put together from bits of bikes they had lying around. The bike was only a tenner or so cheaper than elsewhere butcalling them everyday for 2 weeks and finally recieving the bike 3-4 weeks after they had kindly charged my credit card didnt leave me too pleased.
