Rutland appear to have cleared stock at a similar price, but they've sold out now.

This seems to be the best price for a Defy 4 by some margin. The Defy 5, which appears to be a slightly lower spec can't be found for less than £399 anywhere.

Anyway, I'd been looking for a second hand bargain, but having seen ageing unwarranted tired and dented equivalents go for £200 or so I figured to buck the habit of a lifetime and buy new.

Vote hot if you think I've done ok. And if I could have bought a better bike for the same sum please let me know and feel free to vote as cold as you like - it's not too late to cancel!

Thanks for posting. I’ve added the price to the title.
Here’s a ‘Help’ link which gives tips and advice on thread posting.

Thanks Andy.

Here's a link to the discussion when Rutland ran the same deal.
Decathlon entry bikes are pretty decent specc'ed.

If you already have a comfortable saddle then, you shouldn't need to change anything else on these budget bikes initially.
Defy 5 doesn't have carbon forks, 4 does. Winstanleys excellent customer service.
Excellent bike excellent price thought long and hard about buying this, but with 2 expensive mountain bikes in the garage the mrs would go ape! Heat added
You did well son;)
Using the time machine we have the three favourites at this price:
- Red Triban 3
- Felt F95
- Saracen Tenet disc

At the moment I can only find:
wiggle.co.uk/ver…16/ (it's £332 for me)
merlincycles.com/mer…tml (not full Claris)
Or for £50 more you get sora:
https://www.merlincycles.com/merlin-performance-pr7-r-road-bike-2016-88021.html

In conclusion, heat!
As second hand mentioned - for what it's worth, last year I got a 2012 Defy 2 for 170.
Very decent nick overall, decent spec (10 speed etc). Was about an hour and a half's round trip in the van, but fine with that and still think I got good value. I wasn't in a rush, so could wait for a good deal.
I want to by a road bike to get into triathlon. Not sure whether I go for this or invest more and get one with better components.
If you have a Santander 123 account you may be able to get 10% additional cashback on this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mekk-pinerolo-se-02-sora-2016/

If you log in to your account there is an offers section which you need to enrol in and select the retailer's you would like the discount applied to.

Making it £351 and a better deal IMO.

The Triban 3 Red from Decathlon at £150.00 is great value. Bought that instead. Probably deserves its own HUKD thread. Thanks

Although this doesn't appear on the Decathlon site when searched for.....may have got an old link. Let me order it though. Will wait and see what happens.

That has just shocked me. !!"£150"!! for a alloy framed adult bike. Can't imagine a better way to spend that cash.

i think you have found a cracking deal for a occasional rider who may not know if they will pick the cycling bug up. 150 is great value in my opinion.

it's showing now under road bikes, deal must have just come on today. bargain
its a good deal if you want that specific bike but you can also consider the merida crossway 40 for the same price after discount at tredz. aluminium frame, hydralic brakes, lockout front suspension and seat post suspension. overall for the same price I don't see any competition for the merida. plus they have all frame sizes
How do you get discount on the crossway at Tredz to £150 please- showing at £349 on the website
Is there a code ? Thanks
He meant it's the same price as the Giant, not the Triban 3.
The frame on the Defy is superb for the price, had many, many Giants and never been disappointed with any of them, probably the best value brand on the market.
its gone - that was quick oO
I'm in the market for a road bike, but I found a local hire place that sells off previous years bikes for half price or less off current retail. Lot's of treks for £450, my dad got a top of the line trek more than 900 quid off and it was as new condition. If others are on the cheap bike hunt it's well worth checking out your local bike hire places to see if they are selling old stock.
Wouldn't be a fan of old rental stock personally, they will claim its been serviced before sale but there will be no guarantee on how worn the parts are.
