Nice bike, tempted with this deal.
Heat.

Seems about right for the price.. wouldn't really pay more

Bottom end groupset and only 18 speed.

End of season sale will be here end of December, beginning of January.

You'll get better bang for your buck then.

This is an end of season deal.

there are lots of deals around for entry level road bikes in my local shops - a Scott Speedster 60 for £375 or a Specialized Allez (not sure which model) for £400.

Would anyone know how this deal would compare?

Try Felt as they are much better for the equivalent money

Then it's a poor "end of season" deal.

Not really. Giants are usually a little bit more expensive compared to say Felt. This is a good frame and has it all really. Headset guides, 25mm tyres (as opposed to 23mm) a large range cassette, mudguard and panier mounts. I know it's just Sora but least you get the Sora crank unlike others too.

For an extra £50, this blows the Defy 3 deal out of the water.

Apart from the gearing, what's special about the Felt?

Bought the Giant Defy 3 2013 for £349 last Christmas so I expect this will be reduced further mid December. Bike is ok but having had other makes I prefer Felt which for me is the best affordable brand at the moment.

Carbon forks as well. That and Tiagra makes it worth the extra IMO

End of season is August to October usually, hence why this is reduced.

If it was a Defy 1 I'd vote hot

I'm confused by all of the negative comments.

Giant ally frames are pretty much unbeatable and their own brand wheels are fantastic.

Although their are a few bikes around at the minute with tiara for around £500, the build quality does not compare to this.

Heat from me

Tiagra*

Tiagra are several steps up from Sora.

Giant do make good frames, I have a (hybrid as well) - Giant Escape 1 - can't fault it. Groupset a touch up from 2300 & Sora.

Have been tempted to buy this for the last few days as a 1st road bike but reading some peoples comments on here i might wait and see if it drops further. Been debating what size to buy also, im 5"10 with a 32.5 inch inside leg, id either be the top end of the medium or the small end of the M/L

I'd go for medium. You don't want to be spread out too much.

For out and out road bikes only , I agree however many makers will put Acera, Alivio and Deore. (especially common on 2012/13 road bike models) on a few 2014 models.
Both Alivio & Deore fall in between Sora and Tiagra.

It doesn't work that way. Sure you can retrofit but you shouldn't be using them as comparaisions as you won't see a mountain bike with 105 components for example.

I have got this bike. it's great. fairly relaxed geometry that suits me, well finished. was worried that the sora components would not be very good, but was very surprised. my mate rides a 2.5k road bike and even he agrees that it's a good bike and not a lot heavier than his. frame is a good starting point if you want to upgrade. I usually ride a mtb with XT and was not sure if the Giant would be any good, but take it from me, it is. see bike radar review. doubt this will get much cheaper. last year's model so when they have gone they're gone. look at the price of the current bike

This is now £426.55 with the code RUTLAND5 until midnight Sunday. This is a very well reviewed bike even at full price and having rack mounts is a bonus for anyone looking for a road bike as a commuter. I have it and am very pleased. There was a review in the September issue of Cycling Active which is worth a look. Also worth noting there is a lifetime warranty on the frame.

Thanks. Fixed title and added code.

Bought last years model end of November 2013 for £379 in sale so there is a possibility of this dropping further. Seems to be so many models around these days getting hard to shift by retailers, hence the discounts. Happy with bike but this years being white/red not what I would want.
