Been looking at some of the bike shops deals recently where they're getting rid of 2011 stock and just found and ordered myself this one: (..plus I always wanted an XR3 when I was a boy-racer..!)

Giant Roam XR3 (Disc) - 50% off rrp of £695 @ £347.50

**EDIT - EXTRA 15% FINALLY EXPIRED BUT 50% OFF THIS BIKE STILL WITH STOCK AVAILABLE - SAME FOR LOTS OF THE WIGGLE BIKE CLEARANCE DEALS**
**USE CODE 'UK15' FOR £15 OFF A £100+ SPEND**

but even better for today only add xmas voucher code "EXTRA15" (valid until midnight) to get it for £295.38...and don't forget 2% quidco for another £6 off...!
Edit: Also 2.02% cashback at TCB.

Lots of half-price and other bargains to be had on there too but this one has most frame sizes available for a change...but hurry up as extra 15% runs out today.

Absolute bloody bargain for this quality make/spec bike, including shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 27 gears. I won't list the full specs as Wiggle do that anyway but here's the main summary taken from their site:-

I'd been looking at something like this for a while now and nearly pushed the button on a Cannondale CX2 with similar spec for £500 instead of £700 but this deal was a no-brainer for me in the end.
Tempted. I´ve had my eye on a carrera subway LTD edition hybrid at Halfords about 215 after TCB but this looks like its in a totally different league for 70 quid more.

No dis-respect intended towards Halfords or Carrera owners but Giant bikes are different quality. Granted the rrp of £695 is maybe a bit much but at this price I thought it was rude to say no..!

No, the Carerra works out at about 215-220. This will wouk out at about 289, seems pretty good for what you get. Should this handle light trails?
Cracking deal, would go for it if I had enough room...........bike shed full up!
Fantastic deal, just ordered this!

Also you get a complimentary tool kit with a bike order. Nice little extra.
inflated original price.
That bike is sexy, I wasn't after a bike before but suddenly I want one. I want this one...
Shimano Alivio Rear Derailleur supplied, not Deore as stated on the spec sheet.
but halfords has bikes for <£100. Must be a cold deal!!!

(not really)

£700 originally though? For those specs...thats an awful lot...not bad at this price.
The drivetrain on a £700 bike should be way better than Alivio, even if it is 9speed, I have Deore on my hybrid and its not perfect, and cost £400 full price. The square taper chainset/BB is old tech as well.
I fail to see the need for such a front fork on this bike either, neither a full MTB or road hybrid, maybe my bike is more road focussed than this one but that is what I do most of my riding on with little off road, but then I have road tyres as well, I couldn't see this being that great on the road though

Its cheap but I wouldn't say its as much of a bargain than all that, I paid £50 less for my comparable spec Edinburgh cycles hybrid (fixed forks)
The forks have a lockout feature that turns them in to pseudo fixed. The wheels are 700c and are fitted with road tyres. It's basically a road bike with a more relaxed riding position.

It fits me needs perfectly. I won't be doing down hill any time soon, but we have a bike track (old railway track) that goes for about 30-40 miles which this bike will suit well.
So what's hybrid about it? It doesn't seem to be battery power - which my next bike has to be.

Otherwise I am quite happy with my current 700c "city" bike, and it has a hub gear. Alivio sucks, I agree there.

Disc brakes are nice - though hydraulic is not necessary. Avid cable-operated ones are brilliant.
Flombard

If you sold them all you could probably afford a car

Got a car, prefer the bikes any day, if enough people thought the same what a great world!

I have the Kraken and to be fair I was unsure whether to go for it at the time as I was looking at a Giant but didn't know if I could justify the price tag. ALL reviews said that for the money £450, the Kraken was a steal (and I got it reduced to £303!!) and its certainly lived up to its review. All parts are good (except the tyres/ hubs) and its taken everything I've thrown at it!!

All in all a good bike, the bike snobs can sneer all they like doesn't worry me if they want to spend £3000 on a bike that they will only ever take photos of to use as bragging rights on their facebook page

Not disputing that Giant are a good brand, but you are also paying a large chunk of your cash for the sticker on the frame, I'd rather save that and get a bike that suits my needs.
Wow - just ordered after deliberating between this and the seek 2.

The GT Tachyon is the dogs!!!

Much much better spec than the giant for the same price
Looks good for the money. If I could justify having 4 bicycles I'd be buying this.

You're right, I've owned many Giant bikes and they are very good for the price, but for the first time this year bought a Krakken for £303 and value for money unbeatable, still love Giants but don't dismiss the Kraken.
Thanks to OP - happy xmas to me :-)
Am gonna buy one for my father in law for xmas but what size do I get? he's 5.9 with a short 29" leg...
Going to treat myself too one of these although unsure of size. I think I sat on a Medium Roam 1 back i the summer and whilst a little tight on the standover it felt good with my reach to the handlebars!

Also considering going for the Roam 2 as that is a bargain!

18"/19" according to those. Or google "hybrid frame size calculator" for more suggestions.

Good price. Giant bikes are good for the money.

(But I always thought the car version of the XR3 was over-rated myself. A few mates had them "back in the day" and they usually fell to bits. Maybe that was more to do with how they drove them .... )

Suspension is a complete waste of time on a hybrid especially if people are buying it as a commuter which is the market hybrids are aimed at? Even if they have lock out they still add a considerable amount of extra weight to the bike.

The Giant site is a complete fob off though:

Giant Bikes

How much does this bike weigh? It’s a common question, and rightly so. B … How much does this bike weigh? It’s a common question, and rightly so. But the truth is, there are no industry standards for claiming bike weights—and this leads to a lot of misinformation. Variances exist based on size, frame material, finish and hardware. And as bikes get lighter, these differences become more critical. At Giant, we believe the only way to truly know the weight of any particular bike is to find out for yourself at your local retailer.

Fortunately I was able to find it elsewhere: Weight: 14.40kg/31.72lb

No wonder they don't display it as thats a heavy bike even for mediocre MTB standards.
No mud guards, not much use for commuting.

The XR3 has generally better components. I dont really know why they are better but they will be better quality. One thing I do know is that the XR3 has Disc brakes which will make u stop quicker!!!

Cant decide which to get. I like the look of both but the Roam 2 probably shades it but I would love the disc brakes.......

Disc brakes would be better but I think the roam 2 looks better and at £210 with the coupon was a no brainer for me....

I also ordered this one for my dad

wiggle.co.uk/gt-…11/
I just hope Small is the right size for them both

Both of them are short a$$'s 5'8" and 29" leg
Hmmm, looks about the right price for the spec, not sure its such a steal
Not to up on my bikes but would the roam xr2 be worth the extra money?
Third order here I come, now decided to get myself one too.... God I love a sale
