Found 5th Jan 2014
Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II (Usually USA Exclusive) for £1199 at Andertons Music.
I have ordered one in Iced Tea Finish With a 60s neck
They have a 57 Classic in the neck and Super 57 Classic in the bridge and both feature TRUE COIL SPLIT (not just coil tap)
also they have a 10db Boost circuit (which is adjustable inside the guitar)
also other guitar shops (Guitar Guitar to name one) have some at this price but Andertons has the most stock and choice of finishes and excellent customer service and no quibble returns at no cost to you which is why I use them for most of my guitar gear.
Also I forgot to mention that they are giving triple loyalty points on everything so if you buy this you will have £35.97 to spend at Andertons as soon as its dispatched.
I've already spent mine on a strap, polish and strings

I was clicking the link praying there was no goldtop but there is and now I think I'm going to have to buy one. How 50s is the neck profile? My old standard was 50s but nowhere near as fat as the name suggests.

Gorgeous. I have a Signature T which I bought in the summer - has the same pickups as this, 60s neck and locking grovers (metal not plastic) and a restricted choice of finishes. I think mine is just coil tap but I never use it anyway - it's a bucker axe as far as I'm concerned.

This is a really good price as wise buyers wait for this time of year and snap up the last year models for a decent reduction, A traditional is a really good buy if you can't stretch to a standard - and quite a lot of people prefer the traditionals anyway.

I'm adding heat.

Agree, Ice tea burst isn't it?

Edit: I stand corrected, it's honey.

Seems to be several shops selling at £1199 - so appears to be a standard discount over the £1399 rrp?

I got lucky a while back and picked up a mint LP custom in ebony with pink fur lined case for a couple of hundred less... So not a great deal for me!

Seems it happens on most guitars in Jan when the new models are on their way. In reality, at any time of the year you could go and ask for a discount and get most of this if not all. Especially if £/$ has been favouring imports in the preceding months.

Yeah but Andertons seem to have the most choice and I have used them a lot so I can vouch for their customer service. I know this deal isn't for everyone but I thought they were stupidly cheap at £1,399 seeing as they have more features than a standard of the same year and you would pay more for one of those second hand, but now they are £1,199 its just insane

Mine will be coming on monday (i am kicking myself that I was too tight to pay for Saturday delivery lol)

Ha Ha Ha I know what you mean I try and hold off buying guitars but I just can't resist lol. Especially at this price. I havent tried the 50's profile but if you phone andertons one of their staff will be able to help you I'm sure. I bought a line 6 pod hd500 and one of the salesmen had one and gave me his number so I could ring him if I got stuck and needed some help. most of their staff are musicians and are really helpful.

Hmmm 60s neck

Beautiful guitar, but 'er indoors would be wearing my nuts as jewellery if I bought this.....

...good enough for Dave Lister

Nice guitar. Why has no-one asked whether you can use with Rocksmith?

Same price in most shops...not Hot im afraid.

could this even be self advertising? Probably not but appears odd to create a 'deal' where it can be had at the same price in most guitar shops?

A warning to anyone buying a Les Paul. I spent £1300 on a Gibson Les Paul Standard and the first day I had it I put it on a stand in the lounge in pride of place!...the cat decided to start sniffing it so I reached out to shoo her away and k ocked the guitar forward off its stand...the neck snapped at the headstock!!! I was devastated!!

Basically due to the weight of the LP they dont take well to falling off a stand and the necks break easily. Ive had Strats, Ibanezs and All manner of guitars fall off their stands with no damage.

Les Pauls are great guitars....just be careful where you leave them....best thing to ALWAYS keep them in the case.

That's the trouble with buying immaculate and expensive things, they can be too immaculate and expensive to use properly.

Most stands have a clasp across the front to prevent this, have a look on Amazon. It's mostly the very cheapest which don't. And/or get a wall stand.

Looks exactly like one i saw for £120. What exactly is the reason for high price?
Im interested in learning guitar using rocksmith so i am actually wondering.

Im best mates with Mark Knopfler, he was round earlier for afternoon tea and he said its a good deal

GIBSON

@flobblebelly Essentially the quality of the wood and the electronics is vastly superior on Gibson. Not just superior but in a different league.

The way the guitar is set up, how it sounds and how it plays is also drastically better.

Hard to understand if you're not experienced with the guitar yet but crack on - very rewarding!

I'm hoping to go and buy an Epiphone Hummingbird tomorrow. My first proper guitar.
I'm not going to comment on this guitar as I know nothing about them and I'm not in the slightest experienced enough to know the difference in sound or tone. But I'm sure it's a great deal.

Both have four wheels, that's where similarities end. ;-)

I'd avoid les paul copy for learning though, these tend to have 10-11 gauge strings, wide neck and jumbo frets which isn't easiest for the beginners.

£1300 for Les Paul Standard if it is new and in the last few years is a super-hot bargain and should have been posted on here!

More profit for the U.S.A capitalists as always. Do some GOOGLE research and see where all the guitars are made with what wood & electrics. £2000 for a guitar is a disgrace don't fall for the ****. Get a guitar you can play and not treat like some future Antiques Roadshow exhibit. ViC

No it's not self advertising. I just shop at Andertons when I buy online as their customer service is amazing and they had more choice in neck profiles and colours (as I mentioned in the deal). I did say that other shops had them but from what I saw they only had a few models and all were 50's profile neck. I bought mine from Andertons so I posted the Andertons deal. I wouldn't post on here if I wouldn't buy one myself and some companies are a pain in the backside when it comes to returns. I have never bought anything from the other music shops that stock these at this price so I can't really recommend them.

Yeah its not just the weight, Gibson use a different headstock angle than most guitar makers which makes them prone to snapping and also means you should always use a Gibson case for a Gibson as some cheaper or universal guitar cases don't always cater for the Gibson angle. If you try to lay a Gibson on the floor the end of the headstock will touch the floor before the body lays flat meaning that if it falls down it will break the headstock or neck as the end of the headstock has the most leverage.

Wow! I'd never noticed that thing about laying it down, the first thing I did was try it and it's bang on, not just a small amount either. No way can it ever lay on its back!

My Fenders have no backward angle at all, and are well clear of the surface, they are just staggered back and use a string tree.

That is a ridiculously low price for a USA made Gibson Les Paul. the difference is that Gibson Guitars are hand finished and they have been making instruments for 120 years so they know what they are doing. Basically EVERYTHING is better about this guitar than a £120 guitar. Its hard to explain to you if you don't have guitar playing experience because its mostly in the feel of the guitar as well as the sound. Also Gibsons will hold their value a lot better than cheaper makes of guitar if you ever want to sell them. If you are serious about learning guitar then you would be better off buying something like a Gibson LPJ or SGJ at around £500 - £600 as it will be a lot easier to learn on a decent guitar (you hardly have to press down on the strings on a good guitar) . or if you want a cheap guitar I would recommend the Squier Strat (Affinity series) which are around £145 in most music shops. They play really well and for the money no other guitar comes close in my opinion. Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 are amazing and are a great way to learn the guitar as they take the boring stuff like learning scales and make mini games with them to keep it interesting and addictive.

Yeah its a really steep angle i think its to do with string tension over the nut or something like that but I have a planet waves neck stand which is a godsend when stringing a les paul its not dear on amazon and its way better than snapping your neck. link -head stand on Amazon

Nope they are made in the USA. However Epiphone (owned by Gibson) who make licensed Gibson copies have moved production to China and they're not half bad. I just got an Epiphone Dot (Also from Andertons lol) which is made in China and its pretty good. Don't get me wrong, its nowhere near as good as a Gibson but for £280 its awesome (the proper Gibson version is about £1600)
