SG guitars have really grown on my over time, especially when I looked into the more recent HP models. I look at them in a different way now and it doesn't help my wallet at all

This is a bit of an odd one for me, as I've not really seen this model before. I didn't even spot it on the Gibson Legacy site, but here it is at £499. Specs are pretty much what you'd expect at a good price point. The nut width is at 44mm for those that are on the hunt.

On a personal level, I'd be tempted to change out the G-Force tuners here as I'm not a massive fan. Some like them though, so it's all down to personal tastes.

  • Body: Mahogany
  • One piece neck: Maple
  • Fretboard: Rosewood
  • 22 Frets
  • Nut width: 44 mm
  • Scale: 628 mm
  • Pickup: 490R and 490T humbuckers
  • Tune-o-matic bridge
  • Adjustable titanium zero fret nut
  • Chrome hardware
  • G-Force Auto-Tuning System
  • Colour: Worn Cherry
  • Gig bag included
  • Made in USA

Prices are an approximation due to slight exchange rate fluctuations

It’s a shame these have the g-force tuners on. It’s also the reason this old stock is going for this price.

Ebay the tuning system and you've got a very cheap sg here, good find!

Yep. Wasn’t 2016 a bad year for Gibson’s?

It’s when they started adding things to guitars that nobody wanted. I’ve had a go on their 2018 special HP version and I wasn’t wowed but I was tempted. I think it was still a grand they were after. They were closer to £2k when they first came out.

Yeah. Always loved the SG, but tried a couple of 2016 models and wasn’t impressed. For £500 though, maybe not such a bad deal. All depends upon what the buyer is after, I suppose.

2015 was the controversial year where they brought in a zero fret, adjustable nut, wider flatter neck and the dreaded auto tuning (originally called minetune then upgraded to g force). The features were still present in 2016 on some of the guitars. I have an SG with minetune and swapped it for regular tuners, then sold the minetune on ebay for more than the tuners cost me.
It's still a lot of guitar for the money (albeit a weird spec). Personally I would either get a second hand SG standard or if you time it right, last years models in the sale. I picked up an SG standard for £800 a couple of years back on thomann. A firebird V from Peach guitars for £725.

Fair play. It all comes down to budget and player preference, in essence. £500 for the Gibson brand and a decent spec in some respects is quite tempting
Definitely try an sg first and see if it's for you...tried and played/owned quite a few different electric and acoustic guitars .thick necks ..thin necks
...never found a guitar I couldn't pick and play something on it without feeling weird

.......except sg's ....tried 3 in the past and all of them felt like some sort alien plank of wood in my hands...all of them got put down pretty sharpish!

As for the robot tuners...had them on a 2015 Gibson LP junior.....again horrible things

Sold them on eBay and put some traditional junior ones on...made it a different guitar..cost about 50 to 60 quid as the holes needed collars as well

Something similar for a tenner more but without the G Force tuner

Nice to see one with the headstock still attached
I bought one used 2008 for my son and it's sooo good that I want to steel it for myself
I've got a 2017 Flying V with the g-force tuner thing on. It works really well. It's especially handy during gigs where no one wants to wait and watch you squinting at a tuner pedal between songs.

Ebay? Trust me I've used them and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Fit for the bin only. Whatever was wrong with a nice set of Grovers anyway.
yeah like i mentioned...absolute horrible things...total bum gravy !!

ebayed mine..think i got about 50 or 60 quid...which paid for the normal tuners....brass nut was pants as well...swapped that out for a 10 quid tusq made the junior miles better ...and with tuning that wouldnt go out every 5 minutes

....in the early days of the 2015 releases the robos were going for around 150 !

a girl bought mine for a present for her boyfriend..

........no idea if they are still together
