Found 6th Jun 2013
On 12th June, the amount of minutes available on giffgaff's £10 goodybag was permanently doubled from 250 to 500, whilst still including unlimited texts and 1GB data. This applies to any £10 goodybag which started on or after that date.

In addition to existing customers, those who join the network before April 2014 will also benefit from the double allowance availability.

Anybody who joins the network on or after 1st April 2014 will not have access to double minutes.

The "Get Deal" button links to the blog post where the orignal announcement was made. The offer was recently extended to the date above: community.giffgaff.com/t5/…029

EDIT: Kudos to elmetodo for pointing out some incorrect info which I haveremoved.

MAJOR EDIT 19/10/2013: Offer has now been extended till 31st March 2014!
EDIT 18/03/2014: Offer is now permanent!

Just got the text and hot from me. 500mins makes them a lot more competitive against the £10/month sim only deals. Have been thinking about jumping ship past few months but this persuades me to stick around.

Good deal, OH was thinking of moving as the deal isn't great anymore. This should keep her

@Khairul,

Not sure you have got this right. Apparently you do not need to buy the £10 goodybag during the period, you just have to become or be a member during the promotional period to have permanent access to the 500mins on the £10 goodybag.

See alex_w post on this page;

community.giffgaff.com/t5/…/11

New to giffgaff, do you to up after you use the allowance ie it could last you two months or is it a monthly allowance that you lose?

The deal description is somewhat inaccurate. You don't need to buy the promotional goodybag before 1st November in order to "unlock permanent access".

From TFA : "The offer is open to everyone up until 31st October. After that date all existing members will continue to be able to select the goodybag with extra minutes, however members joining after this date will not." - emphasis mine.

Its a monthly allowance. Unused minutes/texts/data expire !

Certainly caused a bit of confusion but for people wanting plenty minutes its a good option personally to me data is what counts

About time really

ive been with giffgaff for 2 years and this is a gd deal! altho havent had any email or text yet to confirm this offer

Me too. Well worth paying £2 a month more to get unlimited data.

ha ha! I just changed from them to the Tesco £10 500/5000/2GB a few days ago. Tesco is still a better deal imho thanks to the data and as they both use the same network, but if you need a rolling contract then Giffgaff is the way to go.

I disagree since you cannot tether your phone whilst on the unlimited deal and I would be hard pushed to use over 500mb a month of data on a mobile phone, never mind 1gb..

Are you allowed to tether using that deal?

Thanks, i will top up again during that time.

Good deal, perhaps GiffGaff are feeling the heat from Ovivo and are upping the allowance to differentiate themselves.

It's unlikely they will see you tethering anyway, I've tethered fine on every network I've been on O2 being no exception, unless you go downloading huge amounts of data from a PC it's unlikely they will notice.

Well GiffGaff noticed me unfortunately.. When I used over 3gb in a month, when you consider unlimited then this is not much really..
Which was a one off when I was away from home and needed a connection otherwise normally I wouldn't use so much.
Regardless I still had them contact me to point out the terms and conditions..

I can't see any mention of them doubling the minutes for the £12 unlimited data goodybag. Are they just trying to lure people away from the unlimited data?

GiffGaff is awesome, and pretty fast, I just topped up yesterday, got 400 minutes, unlimited txts, unlimited data for £15.

That last part is key, fair enough if you really need the data but the lack of a contract makes giffgaff a better deal.

As a GiffGaff member, it is nice to have this, although personally I would have preferred either a small reduction in cost or an increase in data. In other words, I never go above the current 250 minutes in a month anyway

@elmetodo
Thanks for the link. I have edited the OP.

@jaset
What I had mentioned was based on information given elsewhere by a senior giffgaff staff, however another staff member has investigated and concluded that that condition does not exist. Thanks.

I think it's an excellent deal

I've been with GiffGaff since January 2012 and am reluctant to move to a contract - GiffGaff addiction

It's minutes I don't use as much. I always have around 50~ left. Would prefer 2GB of data instead o:)

So it's being temporarily doubled, permanently?

Right..okay.. oO

My brother uses approximately 8GB a month on this unlimited package. If you struggle to use over 500mb on a smartphone you're not using it to the fullest of its capabilities.

Or you're not glued to your phone 24/7.

I understand some people tether ... but I have fast internet at home and rarely need to tether on the road (using the phone itself is OK). 8GB - he must be downloading via a tether or streaming video (I have a rpi for that and the thought of watching video on a phone isn't appealing to me).

Obviously! Your brother clearly isn't using it to the "fullest of its capabilities" either - otherwise he'd be using multiple times more than that. Not everyone actually wants to regularly use video services etc. on their mobile.

It does seem a bit odd. It would make a little more sense if they bought the £12 unlimited data goodybag back down to £10, and then gave you the choice of either the extra 250 minutes on top, or upgrading the 1gb data to unlimited. Would also then make more sense for the £15 bundle to give you both.

data is way too expensive, they are trying to push unlimited only for the higher goodybags, giff gaff has the best plans out there, i just bought a ovivo to try and men that thing is terrible, i was inside tescos and i had no signal at all, the same with my girfrieds iphone 5 on vodafone.

Is this true or an old wives tale, they can only track tethering if you use the iphone, they cant if you use android, just wondered.....

you cant tether on giffgaff with an Iphone anyway (unless its jail broken)

Giffgaff great. No problem, cheapest deal for me on O2 network as no other network works at home apart from O2.

The offer is really aimed at members and new members wanting more calls a lot of members don't use over 1G in a mot h so are quite happy on the £10 bag.
Anyone who joins before the end date will have the 500 minutes on a £10 bag when ever they choose to use that one.
Re tethering,iPhones don't have a hot spot unless you jail break so generally won't be usable for tethering. There was recently a post about new tethering detection systems that are coming that are more far reaching than what's there already, which I believe will catch you if your using an unlimited data bag to tether with. There's not been more details released yet but I would think it will be coming along soon.they certainly can find out those who have done on androids.

My point was more that it's a bit stupid to say that anything above 500mb is unnecessary if you're unable to tether - that's simply not the case.

Was a giffgaff member for over 2 years but got fed up of constantly being accused of tethering and having my Internet cut off, even though I was using my phone only and the 'goodybag' came with unlimited data

I then had to contact them to reinstate my Internet and the time to get then to respond to my messages, with them asking me questions and then me having to reply to their questions generally took me 10 days to get sorted

So I was paying for a 30 day goodybag and a third was lost to trying to get them to provide me with a service I paid for and the fact that they didn't care that they wasted my money

As soon as I could, I left giffgaff. My only advice is to you should only use giffgaff if your a light user, that's the only time it makes sense

I think "permanently doubled, temporarily" is more accurate :P

Those who are existing members or join before November will enjoy a permanent increase. It won't go back to 250 for them.
