I have the 3080 version of this and it’s a beast - a fair bit slower than a native PCIe 3080 though.
If you need a TB external GPU, this is pretty much the best right now and a good price too.
Are these not just pcie cards that can be swapped in an external case?
I have had the 3080ti version of this, and it's a furnace. Can't recommend it. I think that review of 3080 by LTT (far less power hungry) version says it all.
During the summer the card was running constantly above 100oC at 100% fans RPM. Plus Thunderbolt card cuts the performance by some margin.
The RGB was nice tho.
I had/have the 3080 version and it runs well within spec, barely breaks 50C and the fans aren't even at full. Yes, the Thunderbolt connection does impact the speed but it's still way better than you can get on integrated GPU laptop graphics.
I had the 3080 version from CEX and it was DOA. Bought a Lenovo boost station and rtx 3070 instead...
I wonder if they gave the wrong cable with it. I've seen CEX do stupid things like this and they don't seem to care - obviously you need a (preferably) certified Thunderbolt cable not a generic USB C cable you charge your phone with. I had an HP x360 Chromebook with USB C charging from them and got sent a 5W iPhone charger with a USB A to C lead... obviously the laptop never charged but it was a good price so I just bought my own.
