Ahh, thought they were going to transmit sound through the USB port, been looking for USB speakers/headphones but don't think it's possible. Good idea using USB for power though, 1 less power brick!

thanks, needed some cheap pc speakers for my lad.

Good post, thanks Muhammad

Ta OP - needed a set of cheap speakers.

Seems like a good deal, but apparently only 1W RMS (from another site).

So if anyone has a bigger budget & wants a little 'leeway' with more powerful sound:

2.0 sets
- ]Guillemot / Hercules XPS 2.0 10 Speakers5W RMS = £9.99 at Play
- ]Creative I-Trigue 200 2.0 Speaker with with interchangeable coloured facias4W RMS = £12.99 @ Play
- ]Creative I-TRIGUE 250 2.0 speakers with interchangeable coloured facias5W RMS = £13.68 @ Staples

2.1 set
- ]Logitech LS21 2.1 Black Speakers @ Argos for £14.98 Instore/online7W RMS

BUt they're all powered with an adapter this is powered through a usb.

It's eminently possible, both with integrated devices and USB audio dongles of various sorts.

Yes but you can only get two and a half watts out of a USB port - hence the 1W max per channel of these things. Fine for headphones; not so good for speakers.

1w really is terrible. Probably not far off onboard laptop speakers! :P

I agree, but it depends on one's expectations too I guess - those 3 reviewers are very pleased (but who's to know if they're genuine or not!).

Anyway, I've posted more powerful alternatives for people to make up their own minds.

That's a valid point, & will be suitable for an older PC/laptop with no jack to connect speakers to (would require a USB port though).

For anyone else buying this, consider the more powerful alternatives posted above - you'll not regret it, & is only a little extra to pay.

I have these. They are not bad for the money. Decent enough volume but lacking in the bass department, as admittedly are most usb powered speakers. The main bugbear is the overly bright blue led shining next to the on/off switch. Manufacturers need to stop bunging these in, because they only irritate.

For my money, these Logitech V20 speakers are the best available. Very decent sounding and louder than you would think.

Think I will go for the 2.0's from play but thanks for the info. Heat for you and the OP

These are perfect if you are sick of having too many power adaptors cluttering up your desk. I use one which is plugged into my wii for power and I use it for my computer, laptop, and even the wii (I use a vga cable).
It really saves on space, and 1w (per speaker) is enough for most things if you are trying to be green, tidy and don't need a surround sound system...
