Product Overview

WINDFORCE 3X Cooling System
The WINDFORCE 3X cooling system features 3 pure copper composite heat-pipes, special fin architecture, unique blade fan design, together delivering an effective heat dissipation capacity for higher performance at lower temperatures.

WINDFORCE 3X Cooling System-Fans
Unique Blade Fan Design
The airflow is spilt by the triangle fan edge, and guided smoothly through the 3D stripe curve on the fan surface, effectively enhancing the air flow by 23% over traditional fans.

3D Active Fan
The semi-passive fans will remain off when the GPU is under a set loading or temperature for low power gaming.

WINDFORCE 3X Cooling System-Heat Pipes
Composite heat-pipes
The composite heat-pipes combines both thermal conductivity and phase transition for efficiently managing the transfer of heat between two solid interfaces which increases 29% of cooling capacity.

Heat Pipe Direct Touch
The pure copper heat pipes are shaped to maximize the direct contact area to the GPU.

Stylish Metal Back Plate
The metal back plate offers rigidity and protection to the structure, while adding a sleek, clean look to the product.

One-click Super overclocking
With a simple click on XTREME engine utility, gamers can easily tune the card to meet their various gaming requirements without any overclocking knowledge, while saving the hassle of manual adjustment.

Smart Power LED indicators

Then you probably have poor case cooling, because I've had one of these and a custom fan curve, and it was quiet and not getting hot.

Have 3 silent inlet fans and 2 silent outlet fans, all extremely quiet with water cooled 7700k. Air drawn in through front and back and pushed out top. No issue with airflow at all. Processor cool and so is GPU. Stays cool but is very noisy.

What temps is your GPU hitting when its like a jet engine?

You perhaps need to redo the thermal paste on the GPU.

Oh and air coming in from front and back makes zero sense.
Gtx1080 do not get too hot...I would look to see if there's cooling issues or maybe play with the fan curve or TDP.

1080 fans don't run at all until the GPU goes over 50C

Sorry, airflow in front and out through back and top. Have water cooler taking air from case to push out the back. Have negative pressure in the case as larger outlet fans on top. Have bottom of case sectioned off for power supply taking air from bottom and pushing out the back too. Case very rarely gets warm but is usually extremely quiet.

Think it's the fan curve TBH. I haven't looked at it since I installed the card. Swapped from a 970 which was whisper quiet.
And gtx 1060 6gb costs over 300 lol. Would have to be mental to get 1060 now.

There is no way this model of GTX1080 should be noisy even under full load, it's not a very high TDP GPU in the first place and this has a good cooler on it. It is one of the quietest models going. It is either faulty or you need to dabble with a custom fan curve.
msrp of gtx 1080 is $499, so its a decent price. heat
I have this and I can hardly hear it. Good price btw.

No more destiny 2?
Time to buy another 18 for more mining rigs 😁
I pushed buying GPU into 2018. No big games coming this year anymore anyway
I play minesweeper really really fast - will I have a framerate problem with this card?

or should I go for the Gtx 1080? Will be running on 1080p 144Hz monitor

you can also quite easily set the power target to 70-80% to run the card much cooler without much frame loss

At just 1080p both are going to be very fast cards. I would argue the GTX1070 isn't that overkill for it if you want high framerates and it'll last a while. £420 is too much for a GTX1070 at this point. You can get them for £370 even in this inflated market.

GTX1080 is kinda overkill for 1080p you'll be hitting 100FPS+ on most games. If you are going to spend £400+ on a GPU though the GTX1080 is the choice at this price for the moment. Don't be paying over £400 for a GTX1070 now, it's mad.

1060s are like £200 cheaper. If you are budgeting for £300 these are still a good choice.

Thanks for the reply, I couldnt find 1070 for around £370 other then the mini's, I might just hold out for longer for now lol.

To be fair, the minis are generally good cards. The Zotac one may have no back plate but it really doesn't seem a big deal on a smaller card like that, and the cooler is very good. It's not like the GTX1070 is a very hot GPU. It doesn't require some monster cooler. It doesn't really use any more power than a GTX970.

Definitely go for the 1080.

Even 1080 doesn't hold 144fps at ultra settings @ 1080P - anyone who says it does, don't know what they're talking about.
Anyone does 4K editing here on these? Works perfect with a good enough spec PC? Any dropped frames etc?

I'm looking at running Elite Dangerous with this card connected to a Oculus. Anyone know what the performance is like for VR with E:D or in general? Thanks!

If you've got £420 to throw down, save the extra £40 and get the 1080, both are possibly overkill but you're future proofing yourself.
