If this doesn't get hot nothing else will until these start to sell for sub £500 in a few months time.

If I was in a market for one I'd be all over this one.

Great find OP hot!

Amazing price. Just can't justify dropping >£500 on a single component.

I'm holding out for my triple RX 480 in CF, will spank the 1080 and save £100! GO TEAM RED

I don't think that this would be money well spent for me as I only game at 1440p and my 980Ti seems adequate at the moment. Tempting though if I could get a reasonable return now on the 980?
Edited by: "nomisco" 4th Jun 2016

Holding out for the Ti myself, the resale value of these will plummet the second those hit.

Just can't see the point of selling my 980 Ti and paying £140 extra just for ~15 more fps

Prices are all over the place. Guess that's not really new for GPUs at launch but the F's Edition has lead to a lot of confusion. The AIBs are probably wondering why they should sell their better and more expensive cards for less than the F's Edition. Guess they are all watching what the other ones do.
Mind you, Gigabyte are quite capable of cheaping out on components: I remember complaints about 7950 and 7970 where after the reviews the went for a cheaper voltage control chip which meant those cards became voltage locked. Not good for extreme overclocking or for those trying to undervolt. While over-volting may damage cards, I cannot see any good reason why an AIB would disable undervolting.

Usually with the launch of a new graphics card, you should wait until well after launch - a couple of months for the prices to stabilise and the first bargains to hit, or a few months for the first game bundles (my money's on November for the 1070/1080).

With the Founder's Edition ridiculousness, it's overwhelmingly true now. We've waited nearly two years. What's a few more weeks? Sell your current card and travel around Australia for a month.

I had 4 of the borked 7950 windforces which I had got bitcoin mining. Dabs gave me full refunds on all 4 due to massive voltage issues. Got myself a windforce gtx 970 atm and very happy with it.

Neither of them have good dual GPU support. And it's been getting worse the last 1-2 years by all accounts.

Crossfire scales better than SLI especially in 3 and 4 GPUs setups. DX12 will put a major spanner in Crossfire/SLI as now the game devs are responsible for the work. Can only see that working if the game engine developers do that work, or maybe if a future console gets a multi-GPU setup (and that would only help people running the same card or similar cards in Crossfire).

Ah, ditto. Did some mining but I was able to undervolt them somewhat with the VB7 BIOS editor. Just seemed a lot of trouble compared to Afterburner or similar. But yes, at default AFAIR they ran 1.25V but were fine at 1.05V which saved around 50W or more. Excessively high voltages is something which has given AMD a bad reputation for while. This applies to CPUs and GPUs. Yes, it makes a chip more stable but is usually not required. Irony is, that AMD's CPU division has spend a lot of time trying to make the APUs do dynamic boosting, voltage control and power gating (just look at the Carizo reviews), but so far these improvements have not made it to the GPUs. Guess a limited R&D budget can only do so much. Hopefully Polaris will bring some of that stuff to the GPUs.

I understand that your power supply will handle 450w just for 3 cards and you have a decent expensive main board which will handle cards? That all will cost more than your saving of 100.

Lol, you're dreaming, what a dream though lol again, 450W! and Crossfire won't be consistent in every game. Good luck though.

Thanks OP, ordered the Asus strix and this, will keep whichever one comes first.

Oh and I forgot that not everything will support and benefit from multiple gpu

I was the same for a while, was running a 780 (non TI) when I was building a new rig, and decided to just get a 980TI anyway. Glad I took the gamble, definitely worth the extra money. Not saying you should do the same, but it can be worth it!

Just wish I could've been more patient to wait for these, but I'd still be a few months off finding one I'd go for to match my build!

relevant for 1080 potential buyers and because people here stating the AMD 480 will use a lot of power (which is absolutely not the case).

Its really worth a watch, it's from a respected Youtube journalist.

Thanks OP. Got it for £531.99 including the student discount. Still ridiculously expensive, but it is the highest of the high-end, so you always pay a premium for stuff like this.

Good deal, ordered one this morning when I saw they were finally up for pre order :). This is pretty much RRP, but other the overclockers (who have this for the same price), everyone else is charging a premium of £30-60 at the moment. Taking advantage of the demand I guess.

These cards are supposed to be released for the 10th of June but obviously depends on how much stock Amazon get - should t be a long wait anyway and the advantage of it being Amazon is you can always cancel anytime up until despatch if you do find a better deal in the meantime

A lot of aftermarket cards have been delayed by one week because of Nvidia failing to supply the boards on time it seems so this may not arrive until 14th-17th.

Well, I wouldnt never touch the 970, especailly when game now demand atleast 4GB VRAM. In theory the 970 does have the 4GB, but 0.5GB is slow (to make it simple). I would rather go for the 1070.

Recently, AMD and other respected journalists have said the 480 is only going to be around $200 and very low power consumption with high GPU power.

That means having a heavy reliance on Crossfire support in games, something that's not been great in the past. You also have to hope the card scales well, not something we know yet.

I think the power consumption will be roughly the same across the 480 and the 1070. That being said the 480 will likely be about half the price while delivering a performance roughly that of the 970 (currently £260) or maybe even better. Still it's hard to know without having any concrete details yet. All I can say is that reviews have been positive for the new GTX cards although the price point is a turn off.

Only 150 W compared to the usual like 300 for other amd cards so power consumption isn't a problem.
Edited by: "sweeten16" 4th Jun 2016

If you're expecting 3x RX 480s to be £100 less than this £560 card, you'll be expecting to get the RX 480 for £153. You might find them for that price but that would likely be for the 4GB card.
I'll just mention multi-GPU issues (especially going 3-way and 4-way) and performance scaling because I'm sure most of you will know why I mention it.

I must be simple because to me there's either 1080p or 4K - for 1080p I suspect a 480 is enough and for anything more the 1080 is best choice at the mo. If you're upgrading from a 970 the 1080 will give much more improvement than the 1070 will for about £200 more. The 970 was a good option at £270 back in the day but I'm not convinced about the 1070 at £320+.

The 480 does show that a GPU needn't cost so much - even on a new process - so NVidia really are charging top price. They do seem to use less power for a given performance - the AMD design is possible more "raw grunt"

Then I realised AMD and Nvidia are raping us on price regardless of our loyalty and couldn't give a damn how much we preach our support online...

Trouble is crossfire sucks, most AA games these days don't have a working profile on release and some never get a properly working profile.

I run 2x r290x and will be getting a gtx1080 for 4k, about the only semi recent game where it has been flawless is GTAV most of the time I have play on a single card on release (fallout4, tomb raider, witcher 3, dark souls 3 etc etc I could go on)

I ordered one of these:

overclockers.co.uk/kfa…tml

But this appears moments later, I wonder which will be the better card? Id rather order from Amazon and it comes to £530 with student discount....
