Thing is, there's zero reason to buy one of these over a 1070 for around the same money, unless you really wanted to SLI it with an existing one.

You'd be an idiot to buy this over a 10 series. Especially if you ever want to do vr.

I'd hardly say being 40% faster puts it "slightly" above. It puts it in a completely different class of card altogether. That still doesn't make it a good buy, but because of the 1070's existence, not the 1060's. The latter cannot be compared.

I upgraded my 980TI OC to a 1080FTW and to be honest...a lot of money for not a huge difference in the average PC use. The 980 does VR ok as well btw

About £350 - £400 with a free game. I sold it here and wanted a quick sale before they plummet in price. I got a year out of it and lost £300 but my pc is an expensive build so you spend for tech. I'm hoping the 1080ti comes out quick and ill get that and sell the 1080. You get a discount if it comes out within 6 months and there's talk it's imminent
