it's good if you don't have space in your PC. Otherwise I would suggest to wait for a good price for 6Gb GTX 1060.
I’d rather pay £60 more for a 6GB version zotac mini personally
Whats happening with graphics cards at the moment. I purchased a evga superclocked 1060gtx 6gb 18 months ago for £220.00. Does anyone know why the price hasn't come down as my brother keeps looking for a 6gb which I think you need to run VR.

Crypto mining... guessing with the price collapsing on crypto currencies thats why the price of cards has come back down a bit.

BTC has gone up $1000 today, so by that logic we'll be expecting cards to shoot back up.

Yes I'm sure Solitaire and Minesweeper will run nicely.

For anyone else who plays intensive games and needs 60fps at 1080p, the 6gb gtx1060 is pretty much minimum requirement.

The 6gb variant gets on average 5% higher FPS at 1080p. Personally, I went for the 6GB variant, but if you're on a budget, I can see 5%, or about 3fps not being worth £60.

It's worth considering the longevity of the card though, games are going to assume more and more vram is available over time. I'd go for the 6gb variant if budget allows, as I'd expect that fps discrepancy to get bigger in a year or 2.

If you dont need it for VR and dont have a 4k monitor and are not too fussed about running the very latest games at the highest possible frame rates then a even a 1050ti will more than meet your requirements.

I have been happily using mine to run witcher 3, Deus Ex, Civ V1, fear 3 etc at 2k resolutions so will be more than adquate for full HD resolution.

This is better than the 1050Ti but costs almost double what i paid.

not from what ive seen, i run games at 4k and barely use 6GB so i dont see why running at 1080p would be a problem for 3

I always had a problem getting my head round this - surely by the time the RAM becomes the bottleneck, the card will no longer be potent enough to achieve high frame rates? I know (unlike the AMD RX) that nVidia clocked the RAM faster or tighter between the 3 and 6GB versions. I could be wrong but I’d imagine the 3GB GTX 1060 is a good buy right now if you need a card and cannot wait. Especially as it’s not targetted heavily by miners now it’s not as usable for Ethereum.

It’s supply and demand as well as memory chips being in short supply - hence why your DDR3, DDR4 and SSDs have also gone up in price. But I guess blaming crypto-mining is the fashionable excuse these days!

Can confirm Witcher 3 maxed at 1080p, 60fps using a 3gb 1060 so i would have to disagree with this statement. Most games would run max or nearly max at 1080p with 60 frames using the OP Card
1746MHz-1771MHz... Less than a 1.5% overclock. Why do they even bother!

How was the monastery?

Which one did you stay at?

Thinking of spending a couple of years in one myself, trumps really getting to me now.
As I understand it (and I may well be wrong) doesn't the 3gb 1060gtx card have a cut down chip compered to the 6gb?

Thanks, amazing my memory still works
Normal price
I've got a Asus 1060 6bg and Evga SC 1050ti 4gb in two different machines, wish I hadn't bothered with the 1060 as the 1050ti 4gb plays everything and anything I can throw at it at 1080p and has really impressed me, a 1060 for the money isn't a good buy the 6gb is the biggest con as it's only between 3 to 7% better than the 3gb and both are not quite good enough for 4k or 1440p and never will be - a 4gb 1050ti for cheaper will do all you need at 1080p for now.

In my opinion the sensible choice would be a cheap bargain 3gb 1060 if you can find one or low priced 1050ti for now until prices get better - as I understand it the 6gb 1060 isn't powerful enough to really make use of all of it's 6gb of ram anyway and the small difference in performance just isn't worth the money.

A good example is the 960 2gb and 4gb 3-4 years on and the difference is still minimal between them.
