Great mechanical keyboard now under £100. This was Custom PC Magazines top keyboard not so long ago. This is the collect in store price or add £14.85 for postage - so probably better to buy with some other things if you don't live near Bolton. Scan also sell on Amazon where it is £88.14 with postage.

£15 delivery seems steep. But maybe good for those qualified for free delivery

£78 for a keyboard that's much heavier and makes a slightly different sound when depressing keys, than a comparable £5 keyboard.

Yep, cold from me.

Please spare me the "But but I can kill the baddies 0.3sec quicker with this bad boy" comments.

I remember mechanicals keyboards when they were out years ago. when membrane keyboards came out they couldn't give away mechanical ones

Go on then, please enlighten all of us on the major differences.

The one definite advantage that mechanical keyboards have over most membrane keyboards (with rare exceptions like the Sidewinder X4) is N-Key Rollover (NKRO), meaning that any combination of keys will work at the same time. If you've never had issues when holding multiple keys then it's not something you need, but for certain games it can be essential, and it's useful in some other fairly uncommon situations too, like typing chords into certain music programs. NKRO tends to be limited to 6 keys over USB (though some keyboards can bypass that now) but 6 is usually enough.

Other than that, it's pretty much just a matter of preference, but for those who do prefer a mechnical keyboard for whatever reason, the higher price is soon made up for by the increase in enjoyment and/or productivity. Unfortunately my old mechnical keyboard developed a few faults and my budget right now restricts me to a cheap membrane and it works perfectly well, but I'd definitely go back to mechanical when I have the cash to spare.

heat from me as certain mechanical keyboard switches (blues) are easier on the fingers/wrists than membraine keyboards. not to mention theyre better for gaming on.

Don't waste your time. If they are happy with a membrane leave it at that but I don't have them any more and my 12 year old son has chosen them for the last 3 years also he knows the benefits, he used to borrow mine a lot until I got him one of his own. Imo well worth the money if you use a kb a lot but if your happy with a membrane then so be it.

If you don't qualify for the free delivery, you can get this cheaper on Amazon right now.

I was looking at this myself but I've been put off by the number of reviews on Amazon which seem to indicate poor build quality.

I'll hold off for now. I have an old Cherry Keyboard from 1986 which is still doing the job

1986!
Wow. If it still working that's awesome. Time to get it in a display cabinet maybe.

lol, it is still working yeah. I just bought a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Classic from the Razer sale so I think it is going to be retired. Maybe I will see if anyone wants to buy it on ebay. I have a second broken unit for spares. they are probably worth some money for the Cherry MX Black switches alone, never mind the nostalgia value. It has to go through 2 adapters (terminal to PS/2, PS/2 to USB), but it works fine.
