GitHub Student Developer Pack

Found 9th Oct 2014
GitHub is currently giving away thousands of dollars in development tools to students, absolutely free.

You'll need to furnish GitHub with a .edu or .ac.uk email address and a short description of what you want to use the tools for, but that small hassle will get you goodies like a free domain name, waived transaction fees from Stripe, a GitHub Micro account, $100 in cloud hosting, free access to Unreal Engine, and a whole lot more. Even if you only have a passing curiosity in programming, or just want one or two of the included products, this is absolutely worth checking out.

An amazing opportunity for any student that is considering programming. What an opportunity to build a portfolio with some excellent tools.

Would have given a limb for something like this when I was a student. Great share. Heat added.

I got all excited at the prospect of a free backpack......

Thanks OP... Registered and was told I'd be emailed within a week... Got it about a minute later. A lot of tools there for me to check out. Thanks again.

Excellent find! Thanks very much OP.

Thanx. :-)

How do you go about getting this? Do you sign up with your ac.uk email and then select the pack?

Only asking as I don't want my ac.uk email address spammed unless its just to verify

(I was thinking it works this way- sign up with personal address, then verify using my ac.uk address)

I used my spam-trap email address, verified that one, then added my ac.uk address and verified that too. That was fine - the uni address is just to prove eligibility I think, as you can set your other email as your primary email.

Thank you, i'll leave it as primary for now, and if i get too much spam from them, ill change the email. I have it now, they seem like a great community! Now where do i get started...

this is by far the best, most beneficial freebie I've discovered on hukd. thank you OP!

I got rejected with my .ac.uk address... what did you guys put for "How do you plan to use GitHub?"

I just wrote something about writing apps for multiple platforms and the cloud.

As a senior developer I'm really glad that GIT did something like that, getting a pack of tools like that might mean a lot to students that really thing about developing

Thanks for sharing !

Was just about to post this! This is an absolutely fantastic freebie. I just wish this was available when I was a student.

Great for those wishing to learn how to code.

Thank you!

Ah, tried this but alas it doesn't count as a school-issued email address and you need supplemental ID to prove your student status:
