Bought the 28yr old last year and it was a lovely drop. My guess is they told the distiller to leave some in the barrels for another year to make it a 29yr old now.

For this price, it's a steal.

Some unconfirmed rumours last time it may be a Mortlach...but who knows!

Tasting notes according to Aldi:
Aged for 29 years, this Single Malt Whisky is light and floral on the nose with a touch of spring blossom and candied orange peel. A delicate palate with gentle spices, sweet vanilla and light fruits and a medium finish. Featured within a lovely gift box, this 29 Year Old Single Malt is the perfect gift for Whisky lovers.

Glen Marnoch was named after a place in the Highlands where giant herds of marnochs used to roam. Their rasping cries of nerk nerk nork could often be heard bellowing over the glen.

But they were also tasty in a bap and sadly are no more.

The 28 was nice but not as nice as you'd expect a whisky of that age to be. Preferred the 2 18 year old whiskies I got last Christmas to the Glen Marnoch.

That said at this price it's definitely worth getting a bottle, that's if they are all stocking them.

Which 18 year old whiskies were they?. I would love to head of down Aldi now but I expect some rather good deals between now and Xmas to pay for.

Glenlivet 18 and Glenfiddich 18. Both purchased for about £60 each so £20 more than this. But tasted side by side seemed more complex than this.

Would still recommend this though, not much better out there for £40.

I bought one and also the 27 year old from LIDL. Not used to drinking stuff so old in abundance (I've tried a few at distilleries) so a nice one to offer round to guests. As a comparison, a 25 year old Lagavulin is £799

Some of the guys on Scotch Malt Whisky Forum have pretty much ruled this out as being last year's 28yr old, the guy who runs it scored last year's as a 92 vs this at 84.

Interesting, as 29 is quite an unusual age for a single malt scotch.

sold out when i went today....apparently put on shelf yesterday 👎

Scores won’t necessarily increase with age.

Agreed, but they scored it on the fact that it's a completely different whisky. Still probably a Speyside but a lot lighter and more floral than the sherry-bomb we got from them last year ( which was widely mooted to be a Mortlach).

Yeah, last year was definitely a sherry bomb (like a Christmas pudding!). Still got one unopened at home.

Just picked up a bottle in Leeds. I might give it a taste tonight

I have a brand new bottle of last year's, happy to sell it at cost, if you are near harrow

Got a bottle of this today along with a bottle of the 26 yr Irish,

Aldi Greenock got about half a dozen left

Local store restocked. picked a couple up today

Anyone tried this yet?

A review below, sounds decent enough for £40.

No, it isn’t the most complex animal in the world, and no, you probably wouldn’t guess 29 years old if you tasted it blind. And it isn’t quite in Ben Bracken 22 year old Islay territory for quality.

But there are enough nuances of maturity to give you a flavour. The casks have been well vatted to iron out many of the kinks in the older, more tired ones, and the result is a perfectly pleasant sipping whisky. It certainly has more points of interest than other whiskies you’ll find in supermarkets for that money, though that’s admittedly not the toughest fence to jump.

It’s certainly good enough to keep you in the golf club, at any rate. Fair play Aldi.

Score: 6/10

Plenty in Market Street Manchester just now. I tried last year's offering and was underwhelmed, so I won't be buying this. YMMV.
