Given the current oil price it looks like they merely forgot to ad on their FROF (fuel rip off factor)

Still not worth the drive from Scotland but he saved 8p a litre so he saved £3.20 in total (40 litres x 8p = £3.20).

Actually prices are sent through by head office straight to the tills the operator then changes the price board. This is how shell do it so bp will probably be the same. However due to local price changes etc the prices are programmed individually per station or area by head office. Won't be national but may be local if there is more than 1 bp in the area

yes that's the one

bp regularly do cut pruce fuel days marked by a small sandwich board outside. so it was probably just that.
