I could get shot down here as these are very expensive knives at a fantastic price - if you don't look at these with the right kind of eyes they may not seem very good value.

But here goes.

Global Japanese knives have revolutionised food preparation and are admired for their unique design and exceptional performance.

They are handcrafted from the high carbon
stainless steel Cromova 18, which is hard enough to retain
a superior cutting edge, yet not so hard as to be difficult to
sharpen.

Their blades are ground straight to a point rather
than bevelled, resulting in a dramatically sharper cutting edge.
Smooth contours and a seamless, all stainless steel construction offer the ultimate in hygiene.

The set comprises an 18cm (7") cook's knife, 15cm (6") flexible
utility knife, 13cm (5") cook's knife, 12cm (4") utility knife, 9cm
(3") paring knife, stainless steel kitchen scissors and a knife block finished in walnut.

Not suitable for dishwashers. Not for sale to under 18s.

Is this offer available on-line, or only in-store? The link is just to the main TK Maxx web site.

Great price for a Global knife set.

Just in-store I'm afraid, the link is automatically put in once I name the retailer.

Is it a nationwide offer?

Might take a look, get some new ones for work

This is seriously hot if anyone can find them.

Which store did you find them in? Were there many there?

Id have to snap some up if i could find any.

Have some heat for the shear hell of it. Good quality cut price knives. I might have a stab at these but as others have said, you'll need to be sharp to find any. :-D

If this was nationwide then this would be the best knife deal ever on HUKD. But TKMaxx deals never are nationwide. Only really small things are. Or stuff like duvets. I bet no one else finds these for £140.

Ill be checking TK Maxx in Clapham in the morning, fingers crossed.

Ill post the result

Bought these a few months ago and took them back... The TK MAXX stock is from an old Times Newspaper offer the block and scissors are not made by Global. You can get the included knives for cheaper off an Internet kicthen utensil suppliers (not eBay).

Not voting cold as may suit some people though.

Nice & reassuringly dear - would these be any good to match with a £2,299 camera kit?

They were in the Bolton TkMaxx - (upstairs on of the clearance table, in the middle, adjacent to the rest of the kitchen stuff). That was this afternoon - I can't imagine they would have gone though becuase even reduced they are much more expensive than all the other knives in there.

And it was VERY quiet in there.

*goes to look how much the 5 Global Knifes cost seperatly*

Just a cautionary note, not all Global Knives are the same!

Global knife blocks are not usually walnut, they are all metal ones.

However, if these are G or GS knives then they sell individually for £40 to £50 even at discounters, and there are five in this set.

Lovely knives to work with though. I will be looking for these tomorrow, unfortunately I can't get to TKMAXX until after work.

They are G and Gs (the cooks knife is a G-55). There is a GS utility, paring - and some others, forget which - they are all G or GS though. I only know this stuff as I've been researching and trying to talk myself into them for about 3 months!

BTW, only 5 knives + scissors + knife Block(7 PC)

Good knives are a no brainer for a decent kitchen. Mine are Henckels but I might get these too.

great knifes , for the japanese or any other culture that has a culture of quality cuisine

but for UK ? a fish and chip, pie and beans culture ?

waste of time, no one in the uk is a proper cook, no one

Great knives. But surely TKMaxx stock varies wildly from store to store; that is their way of running the company - finding stock in one is certainly no indication that it might be in any other TKMaxx store, in fact it is highly unlikely to be true. Can't see this as a good deal unless there is reasonable availability.

Why not try saying that to Gordon Ramsay's face?

excellent

Great knives but remember that because they are hardened molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel you'll need something like a Global Diamond Steel to sharpen them effectively.

I'd agree with that - it's terrible how few people know how to cook anything other than oven food or beans on toast. Nothing better than having a decent set of knives in the kitchen, from what little I know this is a fantastic deal - I'll check my READING TK Maxx at the weekend and post if I find any.

Heat added, of course!

Judging by how people go silly on HUKD over George Foreman grills and Burger King deals it's quite hard to disagree with you.

But there are still plenty of us who enjoy good food.

Great staff and all that, holds the edge, Japanese steel, serves years, nicely balanced, miles better than any similar sub £50 set, but honestly, would this be a waste of money if someone cooks twice/three times per week as most of people do? Is it any better spreading butter, cutting cucumber? You cannot even put it into dishwasher. So many professional cooks on this site...

Hot anyway IF you are pro cook/have money to burn/get it as a gift.

These are domestic cooking knives. HACCP Pro kitchens use colour coded handle knives. (mine do).

Many thanks for doing the research. The total price sounds bizarrely similar to the Times Online price quoted earlier (£195.73).

Would be a bargain at £140, but as others have mentioned, it is quite possible that the original poster was looking at the only one of these anywhere in the TK Maxx network. I'd look out for it if I was passing my local TK Maxx, but would be reluctant to make a special trip just in case.

I have a set of Global knives on the 80cm magnetic strip that goes on the splashback of the cooker, it looks fab.

The wife dropped the utility knife on the floor and it split in two at the base of the blade!!!! that aside they are very good knives and I use the MinoSharp (Shinkansen) Water Sharpener to do the job, works well.

Shame about the snide scissors and the block.

Heat.

I have a set of Global knives and they are just amazing, need sharpening now and then so make sure you get the right kind of sharpener, they require a specific type. Uber HOT!

Domestic....Global...are you mad, I know many a chef who use Globals!

Every kitchen has to have HACCP and also COSH.Don't matter about colour coding knives

If Global were a car manufacturer, they would be Porsche...
